lol that sounds like me. My DH is very "just wing, it doesn't need to be perfect and it SHOULD work". While I am very precise needs to be exact. I drive him nuts lol.
That measurement works for me but Im sure Sallys and others may be slightly different.
So my hatch for my test run cooler eggs is complete. I set 18 eggs, 14 made it to lockdown and 12 hatched, 3 on day 20 and 9 on day 21. I still have the last 2 eggs in the bator just incase on day22 but Im pretty much calling it done.
I am very satisfied.
I didn't get an exact measurement of my bottom vent hole but it is roughly 1.25 inches by 4.5-5 inches. again that is roughly. I can go find a tape and actually take a measurement.
Ok my vent hole is 1.5 x 5.5
Update on my cabinet cooler incubator. Eggs went into lockdown late last night(night of day 19) and today day 20 ONE chicks just hatched and 4 others have pips. I feel very confident in saying that the cabinet cooler incubator is accurate, reliable and a SUCCESS!!!
My cooler bator eggs go into lockdown today (day 19 one day late). I will keep you posted on the hatch. Im pretty confident they are doing well. I even put eggs that were already incubating in my hovabator into the cooler bator to finish up the incubation process.
I candled my cooler bator eggs this morn, today is day 4.
9 light brown eggs were set so I could see best for my test run and 7 of the 9 show veining! I think the other 2 were refrigerator eggs which is why they are showing veining(at least not yet).
I had also set Marans eggs in with them...
Im gonna go ahead and correct myself from when I said that the walmart acurite thermometer is accurate, well because ITS NOT.
I just got my new Brinsea Spot check. I put the probe in through the side vent hole and the cooler was reading 104 Acutrite thermometer was reading 100.
I also made...
So I made no further adjustments to the cooler bator after removing the metal tape from the lower shelf in the cooler and my temps seem stable and even. I moved my thermometer around the entire inside of the cooler to get reading and it is reading 100 degrees everywhere, except the lower shelf...
So far I find my acurite to be accurate and reliable also temp not humidity. We will see though when I compare it to the spot check.
Thanks for the positive review on the spot check.
So here is what I did so far. Instead of removing the lower shelf completely, I decided to start with just the seal around the lower shelf so I removed all the silver metal tape that was sealing the edges of the lower shelf. I had the thermometer on the top level and the incubator is now reading...
Very good thought! I will try that first before I go fussing with the vent hole or different shelf sizes. I will take it out now and run it like that and give feedback on this in the morn.
Oh I didn't drill the ones on the top since I have no places to hatch in it.
Im pretty sure the back vent area is sealed well. I will mess around with the vent holes and adjust the bottom shelf also and see if that makes a difference.
I did lower the bulb wattage significantly and the temps stay the same at each level, which is why I am thinking the air isn't circulating enough to make the heat even through out. But I am new at the cooler bator so Im not too sure.
