Remember to trim only one wing so they will be off balanced. Glad the pullet is okay. On wounds we use blue kote if it is a small wound and triple antibiotic salve if it is a large wound. Blue kote will dry the skin edges of the wound so is not the best choice for larger wounds. Give her some...

Yes. I have had hens go broody several times a year. I find that if they lose the chicks most often they go broody again quickly. This is one way to get broody hens to incubate eggs but you have to watch to make sure they eat and drink enough and often.

Welcome to the new folks.....glad to meet you It has been one hot summer but I'm happy that a good many of the hens are still laying. I do expect that once they start molting the egg production will drop. I just hope we still get enough eggs for eating. The place will look like there was...

This does look like an egg inside an egg.......but hard to be sure from pictures. Another idea with the "register all flocks".....they know who to tax for egg and meat or bird sales. They have no way of protecting flocks other than to kill flocks near any suspected flocks. Also this may...

This is true but for bio-security reasons I will still meet buyers off my property and at a local parking lot. It's all about protecting my flock.

Birds with mites, we put the ivermectrin on all areas where the mites are and around vents, crests if the bird has one, under the wings. We use a small syringe and apply a drop in each area that has mites. If the bird has mites over the entire body, we dip the bird in a solution of 8 oz liquid...

Good morning folks and welcome to the new ones Either the girls have started to slow because of the heat or we have a few egg eaters in some pens. I'm not sure what turns a hen into an egg eater but we usually find out which hen and she becomes dinner. We have never had any luck in...
