whats everyone hatching? I hatched a bunch of mixed chicks a while ago. The roo was a copper maran and I'm expecting a few to be "purebred". I kept 5, sold the rest. Now I'm waiting for some more to hatch. I wish I had a bigger incubator as i can only hatch 30 at a time. I'm gonna keep some of...
a few of my chickens finally started laying again since they stopped sometime in august. I hadn't even bothered checking for eggs until a day ago when I looked and the nest had 4 eggs. today i only checked one coop and it had one egg, probably more in the other coops. anyone else had any eggs...
that looks like a really nice coop. theres no exact number, i have a 4x8 coop and last time i looked in there it had 15 chickens. mine only stay inside at night and they like to flock together.
sounds like he has an upper respiratory infection. that's how they lose their eyes. I wouldn't worry about the bite, i work at a cat shelter and most of the staff gets bitten by accident every now and then. We wash it out with soap and water then apply betadine. cats like all mammals have nasty...

my ameracauna recently hatched 4 eggs. she didn't want them :( she just wants to sit on eggs, i don;t think she knows what the little fuzzy things are or where they came from. one didn't make it but the other three seem healthy.
Those things can get a bird from a cage with one inch openings. Chickens. Huddle together in a corner and that's when they take advantage. Only way is to kill it or it will keep coming back night after night

I started reading this awesome book a few days ago. It's about a woman who moves to a rough neighborhood in Oakland Ca. and starts an urban garden in an abandoned land plot next to her apartment as well as some poultry. The way she describes everything in so many detaisl makes you want to read...
mine took a year to lay. the eggs will definitely help. i had to physically pick up one of the hens and place her inside the nest. she stood there studying it and a few days later laid her first egg there.
