60 geese isn't that bad, if you have the land (says one who has over 30 geese and 60+ birds (geese/ducks/chickens combined). Serv, I am sure you can handle the increase in numbers.

My whites are good, thanks. I've noticed that the timing of dewlap development is individual, although in general it seems the boys develop them more quickly than the girls. I have quite a few girls that didn't develop dewlaps until after their first laying season was finished.

Ouch to your losses, Serv. I too want to know if any buff Africans survived? They are so beautiful. Miss L, sorry we drop off on you in this forum. Luckily you also have chickens and ducks and I assume those forums are less seasonal than here? Look forward to hatching together next spring!

Hey Serv! Glad to see you pop in. I'm going to make an effort to hatch a few white Africans next spring and hope you are around!

Hey 8Geese, good to see you again and glad to hear you are rebuilding your flock. I too have added chickens to my group, having brought home 5 hens/1 rooster from an adoption event a couple of weeks ago. 53 is not too many. We have well over 60 birds here. But, it is fun having such a...

Paulla, very sorry to hear of your loss. Napolean was a wonderful girl and I'm sure she will be missed.

Good to see you both, too! I probably should not have allowed my geese to hatch any non-dewlap babies, but the trio of goslings that have hatched are adorable and it is nice having a few babies on the property. Still hoping my dewlap girl has a good hatch. She's only a week or two into...

Congrats on everyone's hatches! I may not post much anymore but I do enjoy reading this thread and seeing all of the pictures. Breeding season is winding down at our place and we managed to keep our numbers of new babies pretty low. Our 1st gosling is now almost a month old and is spoiled...

I also would like to pop back in with hatching news. My African hatched our 1st gosling of 2015 today. Not sure if it is a brown african or grey dewlap (was dark when I got home and took a peek and it was a shared nest), but it looked healthy and was chatting up a storm. Based on personality...

Congrats on all the recent hatches and rebuilding of flocks. I am on standby for our 1st set of goslings, which could be literally any day now. With so many of my geese going broody (7 and counting), I'm getting a little worried about how many babies could hatch this season, since my flock is...

Wow, Serv! That's a huge reduction in your flock. Hope you are ok with it. Congrats, 8! I forgot to mark when my 1st goose went broody with a half dozen eggs, but I'm thinking it has been about 3 weeks which means it won't be long before we have our 1st goslings of 2015. I have another 4...

Most people candle to see if internally pipped, but you can also listen for faint clicking sounds which means they have pipped. I wouldn't worry about getting humidity lower if your bator is dry and air vents are open. It is easy to control how many eggs a goose sits on. Simply remove extra...

I have now collected 5 mini duck eggs and am super curious to see what may hatch from them, so hubby gave me his blessing to fire up my bator. I plan to set them this weekend, along with any additional mini eggs I may get the next few days.

I have hatched dewlap toulouse, africans, and production toulouse goslings using a still air incubator. I'd cook goose eggs at 101F (99F for forced air) and maintain 25-30% humidity. I would then bump humidity above 70%, with 75% being ideal for lockdown/hatching. The key is not so much the...

So I was out gathering eggs this morning when feeding and I found a trio of mini duck eggs. They are slightly bigger than a pigeon egg and smaller than a medium chicken egg. I wonder if they were laid by my micro duck, who grew to be slightly larger than a call duck but is smaller than my...

I think I can join in now, too. My production Toulouse goose has officially gone broody in the past couple of days. I have a couple of dewlap eggs, a buff Toulouse egg, and a white African egg under her. She has hatched babies the last two years, so I am pretty sure she will hatch at least one...

Congrats on the gosling! I learned a neat trick from a friend recently for brooding solo babies. Hang a feather duster upside down in brooder, as it will give the baby a place to snuggle under that simulates being under momma goose.

Hi Brutus, long time no see. Congrats on your first dewlap egg. I assume it is from one of the girls you hatched last year from my eggs? FYI, I have never had a fertile egg from a yearling dewlap.
