Lol! Frost bitten combs make hens not lay?! Not true...and I've raised chickens my whole life;) A comb doesn't decide if a hen lays or not....haven't had many hens get frostbitten combs though. Agree with good ventilation is key!
No, but we all love to stand nearby to catch the judges comments...if he'll let us. Most 4H judges allow 4Hers to go around with them to hear comments on how and why they judge. It's even fun and interesting for us parents!
Here in Gt Falls at state fair, the judge goes to each cage...just like in the open shows. Any other questions just ask :) I'm a 4 H poultry leader and grew up doing this stuff. So glad you're going to show at fair!
Yes, we were at the show :)
I don't know what's best to use for chickens. Diluted bleech with water is good. I work in Microbiology in a lab....10% bleech with water is what we use for everything. Let it dry....we have no problems with it ever bothering our breathing, so I'm sure it'll be ok...
I live out by Vaughn. I work in the lab in GF and the ladies think I'm a crazy chicken lady! My girls and I love our birds. We raise show quality bantams in Cochins, Salmon Faverolles, blue laced red Wyandotte, and d'Anvers. Is the lady from Ulm, Vickie? She's great and a wealth of knowledge...
I'm out by Vaughn...Sun Prairie estates with our 5 acre funny farm :)
We did awesome at the Hamilton show! My girls both won at showmanship, and my oldest got grand champ bantam pea comb clean leg. I got grand with my bantam cochin Roo in one show :)
The silver laced are a project....so none that are really show quality. I have ok lacing but type is not there. I've been talking and working with some of the top breeders in this color to bring the color back to standards. They are all very sweet, so let me know if that is ok and I'll bring you...
Yep, that's what I woulda done. Sorry...I know it stinks to have to do that. I have bantam silver laced Cochin Roos if anyone wants some I'd give them to you :) (preferably not for dinner). They're so sweet , but each time I hatch them out I get one hen and the rest roosters! Ugh !
