Due to some major changes in my life, I am having to do some large downsizing of my chicken population. I have quite a few bantam crosses that are cochin and silkie crosses. The majority are bantam males and they are FREE and can be used for meat too. But I have several groups of large fowl and...

Hens eggs develop from start to lay between 24 and 26 hours per literature. That means that the time will slowly change over the days since it is a little more than a 24 hour period. With my hens, some lay in the morning, some afternoon, and even some lay at night.

Yes, I do sell chicks. Right now, I am just hatching out a bunch of Blue Wheaton Ameraucanas. Have Mille Fleur Cochin eggs in the incubator. Have a number of crosses from broodies that started and then finally gave up when egg nests were made into musical chairs - minus the music. I took them...

I've got an egg-eater too. I have tried ceramic eggs, that worked for a while. But a few months later she figured out that the eggs were not mixed with ceramic ones anymore and started eating them again. I am going to try filling blown out eggs with mustard next. I have read in a lot of...

Yes, most of us are busy outside. Spring brings alot of work: fixing coops and fences, mucking out, planting, pruning, mowing, etc. I think most of us are spending our time outdoors because of the nice weather we finally are getting. Sounds like you are thinking about getting younger flock...

3BirdGirlz, I will take a good bantam silver laced Cochin Roo if you bring it over to the Hamilton show. I plan to be there Saturday. Probably won't get there until about 10 am. Bozeman is quite a distance from there.

I agree with KarlaMaria. I have had not luck with those who go broody in the nest boxes where others have access to the eggs. The only way any have completed a hatch is to lock her in a crate with food and water, or in a nest box and let out when she needs water and food.

Hi. I don't raise ducks, but I have chickens that have had eye problems. Rinsing with the saline is good if it is sterile. I found that the best thing I have been able to do for my chickens when they get a hurt/scratched/injured eye is to use Vetericyn Ophthalmic Gel. It costs about $30 for a 2...

Hi everyone! Seems it has become muck season around my coops now. Sucking throw mud and muckout that I pulled out during the winter months. Now it is a ugly mess. I need to go get a couple dozen straw bales to throw down for our wet season. I am overflowing with Seramas! I have 13 in a...

I keep looking at Hatching eggs on BYC and eBay, but it is just tooo cold to attempt having them shipped here. I hate it when I have to pass up some really good deals just because of the cold! Windchill is bad here, about -30 degrees. I froze my @## off checking on the chickens and giving them...

Welcome, PrairieRidge. I live west of Bozeman. I, too, get carried away with incubating. I have a lot of roosters and hens to find homes for. I understand that urge. I hope you find homes for the chickens. It IS hard putting the nice ones in a freezer. Glad you have connected with us. It...

My girls seem to have had a very bad day yesterday because of the heat, and today was hotter. So this morning, I went into town and got three Cobra misters and put them up for the girls. One over the front doors of the coop, one between two of the pens so two sets could get the mist, and...
