I would hold him & pet him as much as possible. We like to call it rooster training. It's not full proof tho. I have a 5- yo son.....and eventually everyone of my Roos has gone after him. Have one on death row now. When we are busy, our rooster training gets left behind. It does help, tho.

Hi, and welcome new people here!! I've been a slacker lately due to life & chickens! Same thing, right! Today, I'm home with a sick child, so I thought I'd catch up a little. I live in gt falls. I have 11 hens & 1 rooster(soon to be 0). Lol. I hatched out mixed breed eggs this spring from my...

Yay! That's where I got my 1st 16 birds. I got 6 meat birds, & the rest dual purpose birds. Last year they got a lot of their birds from Dunlap hatchery in iD. They had these ones that are gold sex links....I think they re the same as red stars....basically. A cross with a leghorn & Rhode Island...

Me too! The girls are enjoying being in the yard, too. Last March, when I first got the chickens, I had them in the house with a light. The dust was everywhere! It was kind of gross....& I am not a neat freak. I had gotten 6 meat birds & 10 layers. I put the meat birds out in the preliminary...

I have a large cage in my kitchen, because a few weeks ago, I found one of my gals bleeding. The others had picked her tail & bottom about clean of feathers. I kept her in the house for a week to heal & regrow feathers. Then a few days of grounding the bullies & getting rid of the rooster. Now...

Maybe I will wait a bit. What do you gals think about letting her hatch them in a large cage in the house? She did screech at me today when I was getting eggs.

Yeah, seriously. My girls are all less than a year old, so I haven't had to deal with non productiveness due to age. Lol. A retirement home that doesn't include the freezer for them would be nice. She hasn't officially gone broody, but usually she sits on everyone's eggs for hours just for...

Hi. I am glad you got rid of the bug! So far my girls & 1 rooster are doing good. I did have to eliminate my other rooster......as he was being a jerk! My gals are so much happier. Even with this cold they laid 7 eggs today. There are 12 of them. They have done 9 some days post Elvis. I don't...

Cool! I'm so happy to be meeting more not only MT people, but also GF people! My co workers call me that, too! I took some pics in to show to my patients (nurse), since I'm always talking about the chickens. Some of them even buy eggs from me! I wondered about those oil heaters, but my coop...

That sounds completely logical to me. I was really struggling with how to do the best for my birds during that. On the 2nd day, I put a heat lamp in my run, which is largely covered with plastic. I also didn't let them out into the yard for that week, or whatever it was. I have 3 neighbors...

I live South of holiday village, Just a half block out of city limits. I don't think my birds have the junk you are talking about. They seem fine.....but a dash of frostbite from this last cold weekend. I am going to post some pics of them I took during lunch today. How about you? What area do...
