It's been way too long since the last update, so here are a few photos. In my third hatch this year I hatched 2 chicks that look really similar, from 2 separate pairs. One is a frizzle and one is not and I think the silkie has a slightly darker head and slightly darker shade of body feathers...
He definitely thinks he's something! I don't think he'll ever make it into the category of being able to cause any injury or pain, he mostly shuffles all over my feet and occasionally body slams them. It's rather comical, but I know it's naughty on his part. He does seem to be calming down...
He has some SOP flaws, 4 toes on one foot, his comb is a smooth little bump instead of the Walnut comb, and his wings aren't half very tight. But, he's a doll, so I'm trying to decide how much I care about the other things vs that.
JetPack turned into a little hormonal butt, and I can see...
I definitely can't sell them "straight run" 🤣 even with them being less than a month old, it's crazy! The chicks from my EE rooster are looking really definite as well, so many boys!!!!!!!
Chonkers girls have been passing on their Z genes and before I set eggs I clearly told them they needed to pass along their W genes. The chicks are pretty clearly boys from a really early age, check out this comb development at 2 1/2 weeks old
I'm sure it's just the way it feels, but...
We had clouds too, but I did get 4 little momentary breaks in the clouds. The one time by the time I took a quick look and passed the welding helmet to the hubby it was already behind the clouds.
The mystery chocolate splash from the February hatch.
Hammy, wondering why I removed him from his happy brooder and not impressed with this whole photo shoot idea. It looks like he has his wings on his hips 🤣
You could try every other day with the probiotics, and plain water on the between days. Same for the vitamins, they won't need that every day, try every other day for the first two weeks them you can cut back even more. You can also have 2 waterers, one always available with plan water and the...
Of the 58 chicks in the last hatch, only 3 had an issue total, I did probiotics every other day for the first two weeks. Probably not related at all. I know that hatch I was using the organic feed, I had 2 or 3 a day I was cleaning up out of 10 total chicks for about a week. :th and they are...
I've wondered if there is a correlation between the probiotics and pasty butt, haven't tested the theory though. It was just a thought with the last hatch when I had just a few. Maybe it changes the consistency just a little to where it sticks? Totally unproven 🤣
Whatever it is, I hope they...
It can be the wrong temperature in the brooder or the feed. My hatch in December was on an Organic feed and I had a lot of pasty butt troubles. The hatches this year have been on Kalmback start right and maybe 3 pasty butts total. Making the feed into a mash can help too, make sure they are...

25 hatched and vaccinated! Only 2 eggs didn't hatch, one Ermine and one Fizzy. Surprisingly the silkie that I thought looked funky at lockdown, hatched a perfect little fluff ball!
Here are a few highlights!

Only 6 eggs to go! And two of those I had marked as questionable at lockdown, so possibly only 4 to go. So many cute little faces in the incubator wanting out!
I went outside for a bit and just got a chance to go check the chicks and ALL three of the Brahmas have popped out! I was looking...
