Sansa is officially the meanest broody I've ever had, this happened in literally 15 seconds while I was checking for eggs that didn't belong, smdh. On a happy note, I've got a 3 day weekend and today I'm making cranberry grape juice with the steamer hubs for me for Christmas 😊
Quick update: Sansa has been clucking and acting broody for weeks but doesn't sit in the nest box besides to lay, so I've left her be. Thursday she stayed in the nest box all day and laid an egg, but slept on the roost, Friday she did the same, but slept in the nest box (I collected both eggs)...
Must be something around our area this year🤷♀️ Last year I was overrun with cucumbers, this year they just stopped growing. I'm grateful I've got some folks to trade with. My flock loves cucumbers, squash, and tomatoes. All the seeds I took out of the cucumbers for the relish I put in the...
My cucumbers failed this year but I traded with a guy my husband works with (3lbs of cucumbers for 3ish pounds of banana peppers and tomatoes) I made enough pickle relish for the year with enough to share😊
Thank you! I try and provide as much of a natural environment as I can since they don't free range. They do get access to my large fenced yard, but only under supervision, so I want them to have the best life possible. And yes, it is never-ending 😉😂
She seems good, back to laying (2 eggs so far) I'm watching her like a hawk! You can see her dust bathing by the Texas sage. Thank you for asking💓 A little video from today of the little littles (almost 3 weeks) out partying with everyone. They're still putting themselves to bed in the grow out...
I went ahead and gave her a calcium citrate right after I posted my last post, she'll get another in the morning with her spa treatment. I'll update after then
She's one of my OG's, so over 5yrs old, but she is a high production breed. She's a very friendly lady and when I went out there she came right up to me as usual, then laid the bloody yolk. She's acting fine, but will be getting an epsom salt soak in the morning and a calcium citrate. It hurts...
I just went out to collect eggs and check on the littles (I opened their hidey hole doors) and Betty laid a bloody yolk right in front of me, then I found her egg from today. This has me worried!
Had an abundance of tomatoes this week so I'm making some savory tomato jam. Also a fella who bought a bunch of blue wheaten OE chicks sent me some pics, they are mixed in with some of his own but you can absolutely tell which ones are cockerels, I think they're gorgeous 😍 The pretty one in the...
After a week of downpours I finally got the grow out pen cleaned up and the littles moved. Only 2 are from my WTB, they escaped the divider and they were the last 2 to hatch while I was home and the others were already in the brooder. They are ebony and ivory. The others are 1 wheaten Marans...
I've never had one, but when I saw it I freaked out, it was the biggest grub I had ever seen🤮 Needless to say it destroyed my plant in a matter of days. But the chickens loved it 😉
The humidity has been brutal! Got done around noon yesterday, then kicked back in the pool with the hubs for awhile. Gonna pick the garden this morning, refresh waterers and I think that's it. Not looking forward to all the rain next week, but we'll be begging for it in another month so🤷♀️
The legbar and biel went to their new home, I named the remaining Bielefelder, Prissy. The lady came and picked up her eggs (she wanted a dozen, I gave her 15) and I found out she has blue splash wheatens, so we will be doing an egg swap in the future. We also got the rest of the fence done for...
The lady (who happens to be my Dr😂) is coming tomorrow to pick up her pullets, she asked if I had any that would lay colored eggs, so she's taking a biel and the legbar. I'm totally ok with it because the biels are so chill and sweet, the remaining one will make a nice addition to the flock...
