Im back from my vacation and made a few photos of my latest newcomer Tintin with his 2 mothers. He’s doing great. Jumps on anything in the coop/run up to 80 cm high.
The other hens seem to accept him completely, except for Ini mini. It seems she is becoming a grumpy grandmother and chases him...
Nice to ‘see’ you again on this thread too. And great to see your lovely daughter with one of your Dutch bantams!
And to see your 2 new birds. They are beautiful. 😍 How did you get them? Flock sisters? Are they both point of lay?
:hugsSorry for all the losses….I had too many over the last couple of years too. But still have 6 hens and a chick since easter.
Great to have you back.
Madeira has spectacular landscapes. Great for hiking!
More birds on madera. Robin.
My husband almost killed a chicken crossing the road this evening.
(No photo).
Other poultry who have a beautiful geese coop. Or was it a playhouse (I didn’t check),
I really don’t know. My neighbours care for the chickens now.
Im on Madeira enjoying a spring vacation.
Greetz from the flower island with the closest I have seen that resembles a chick (a local finch).
I’ve been discussing a similar solution with my husband. Its a possibility to keep him in the large nestbox/mini coop overnight where he sleeps now with his mothers. I have a roost for that mini-coop. And I could add some sound isolation to the ceiling muffle the crow a bit.
If I pick him up...
Tintin is getting darker every day now.
Not such a very simple choice for me.
A few neighbours woke up from every rooster I had early mornings. Only during the long winter nights this is no issue.
It would be possible if there were rooster collars that are not a torture for the rooster.
In...
No problem. Thanks for being honest. I know the chance is around 50% to start with.
The hens wont mind if I keep Tintin when he is young cockerel ;)
This creates 2 new possibilities:
1. buy 6 hatchery eggs in May if I have another broody (and try to please someone else with a young...
@abpatchy
Do you have any idea what gender the chick is from this photo of Tintin. 12-13 days old.
I know I should wait another week even with Sulmtalers, but I wonder and next week we go on a vacation.
The local Agri store (screenshot) sells bags organic of 12,5 kg for € 18,50.
The local mill is much cheaper. Last year when I bought a whole bag organic the price was 22,50 for 25 kg. And the quality is good.
Last time I bought the AR chicken feed together with a friend who could pick up 5...
@rockethoe This link is to a dutch webshop for people who buy much at once.

I think the numbers (price /kilo’s/ bags) speak for themself.
20kg x 50 bags :
€ 12,53 (€ 13,66 incl. tax) for each bag.
I’m glad with the one chick but we are 26 hours later now and it seems no more will hatch. I hope its a she, so it can stay. If the first signs are male, I try another hatch in Mai.
Kraai wanted to join Katrientje , so I got the divider out and enlarged the nestbox. I picked up two eggs to...
First of all and most important its nice to hear you’re okay.
What a 🤬 who sold you those eggs. He should close the run and send you new ones after a few weeks without other roosters getting near the Sussex.
I have been reading many stories of eggs by mail with a very poor outcomes. But...
