Yea it’s so interesting. She has never laid an egg with a shell- not even a thin shelled ones. It’s like her body is ejecting perfectly good insides right past the shell gland. Wildly enough, I’m concerned she in consuming too much calcium! She’s been on layer feed for so long, but doesn’t have...
This is actually a pretty informative page. Thanks for sharing! I just learned a thing or two about how to care for my peach tree. It’s a 4 way mix and suffers from Peach Leaf curl.
Good question. I have the same- about Whiskey. She’s been laying since January, but her eggs are pretty small. At...
Oh you’re set for bees then! Mason bees are like honey bees… but less maintenance. They’re a solitary bee that emerges from a cocoon in early spring. They can’t sting, and don’t make honey. At the end of the season (six weeks long) you just collect the cocoons that have been left behind for next...
What a lovely time of year when there are buds everywhere 😊 Do you get many fruit? Or are the trees still too young?
Our trees just finished flowering and are working on leaves. I set up mason bees for the first time (do you have those?) but am afraid we missed the prime fertilizing pollinating...
One month in and I am so happy with this flock block purchase; everyone with chickens in confinement should try one out.
I had some trepidation due to reading bad reviews, but the chooks are both super interested in it (look, four of them pecking at once!), and it’s the right texture. Not too...
Two at a time! You’re going to need more cages. I found that the cage behavior got better as they got less broody- the panic at first was them needing to get back on the nest. Hopefully Sylvie stops stressing everyone out!
Depends on the kind of toad. I suspect they could eat anyone who isn’t poisonous. I grew up with the poisonous ones around- and worked at a vet clinic where we constantly saw dogs coming in having seizures and heart issues because of them.
They are an olive egger- half ameraucana, half black copper marans. Maybe RM could guide us on this- but I anticipate him to have a cool copper cape as a roo. But if it’s a she, she’s definitely staying here to be my dalmatian chicken 😆
Brilliant! Alex talks about flying here all the time 😉
The chick possibly formerly named Mina should be revealing cockerel feathers soon… maybe in a couple weeks? I’m not sure about the timing of those.
Oof. It’s surprising to me how increasingly common hoarding seems- there are some in my family that do it as well. I suggest bringing a pot of coffee with you and making it as relaxed as possible. Good luck!
I have just successfully made it to the other side of this exact situation, with Fez. I waited until she stopped laying eggs and I heard buk buking before sticking her in the crate. I call the phase that Sylvie is at now “broody lite”.
Anyways, it took two nights in the crate and now Fez is...
