    There is many reasons, the general look of tightly feathered birds, some standards call for barbless down feathers. Plus like you say it is helpful in the warm climates of asia. And tight, hard feathers are helpful in combat.

    They look nice, not as long as I like my birds and somewhat thicker feathering. But apart from that they are fine specimens.

    It is, but some birds feather slower. They look the same once feathered just some feather slower.

    Slow to grow feathers in the first place, and likely slow to replace them as adults. Plumage looks the same though.

    I ask because about a quarter of my oriental chicks seem to have some form of recessive slow feathering gene. I have been trying to breed it out but it keeps cropping up. Its even showing up in about 40% of my grades this year.

    Sherman's brother. He is 7 lbs even, at 15 months. He will likely cock out at 7 and 1/2 lbs. ETA: his tail is still coming in.
