I found that breeding Splash to Partridge gives you a shot at calico splash. Been working on that for over a year. There's a thread on that. The males have stronger coloring, while the females are pale.
Definitely got some chipmunks (partridge) kids, possibly a red pyle or two, and potential calico splash and a buff. Wait 3 weeks until body feathers begin to appear and ask again. :)
Oh is hatching time, I'm going to be brokeeeeee... I rescued several eggs from General Lee's pen after they fell from the nest where two of the ladies are sitting. He's got 4 ladies in all, and I don't know which hen this came from. One is his daughter, and two are f2's out of Lancelot and...
We are having too much fun down here in the south. I can confirm Hu made it to first base!
HUShadow Captain (SC raised Hu from a wee tyke)Poof Poof with a few chicksShadow with a few more (first time mom and doing well)and Sherbert (she's been giving me red pyle babies with SC)
Note the combs on those roosters. They vary quite a bit from the walnut comb. Here's an f3 of mine. BTW @Hinotori I have a sister of your hen, and her sister has the red crest instead of black. They are both f2/f3's.
Got a few last night myself.. Plus 11 from last weekend. And I spotted one in the nest with two of my gals today.
There's one guinea keet in there, tee hee
I've got Elvis (an f2 satin) in with my older hens who are just layers. Not a single fertile egg from that pen. I guess they miss Buddy and Chuckles, two of his brothers. Or maybe he's too dumb to breed. He's over a year, and just hangs out in the pen with them. I put him in there because he...
Anddddd, I got photos of a couple of juvies today.. the last one didn't want to cooperate at all.. bugger. Go figure he's a he.. perfect calico!
How about a red laced satin? My first ever!
I've got a guy hammering me for the gal in the 3rd photo. She's a first too.
He's loving the two chicks...
cheekun math! These just popped out of the incubator, 7 more to go, plus mom's and dads. Not the white hen (I didn't add her eggs since I have kidlets of hers)
I cured a rooster with wry neck that started with a head injury. 2 things you can do. Castor oil massages on the neck, and DMSO applications. Both relieve inflamation and act as an analgesic. My guy was perfectly normal within 2 weeks doing that. A half of a baby aspirin won't hurt either.
