Reading back. Beautiful roo! Thought: The neighbor’s henless rooster is your main problem as far as safe conditions for this potential roo. That wants a fight to get your hens and will seriously challenge any roo you bring home. Unless you’ve taken care of that? Maybe enclosing your yard...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

My sister says her husband has a saying, or wise words: if you’re having a hard time deciding, it’s because you don’t have enough information. So maybe you need time to sort out the information you have, and find out further information. :hugs :hugs

I’ve been absent but checked in and looked back, and am learning this sad news. I’m so sorry about Hen-rietta, though she has lived a pretty long life, and a good one with you :hugs :hugs However, Hen-rietta’s 2nd in command will take over as best she can, or they will pick someone who will...

What jumps out at me is the skin visible, due to the puffiness you describe, which would you say is not so visible normally? The fluffiness can’t cover it as well because it’s stretched out? And you describe jiggling which is not usual (in my limited experience). Soft, yes, but not jiggly. :(

Hanging nipple waterer works great for me, I show them how it works and they learn it fast. Nobody ever gets soaked. Neighbors use a long tube with nipples inserted for their meat birds. @LhickenChicken

If you wait a week or two you will be able to, they start showing their personalities and their faces and eyes develop more. I like Sweetie / Sweetie Pie! We saw a later stooges episode with a Joe, he was after Shemp?

Just an update that Big Boy is still making progress and recovering. He had a coughing fit this morning and there's still discharge but his appetite and energy is better. Yesterday he spent time sitting and hunting on the side of a patch of weeds (waiting for mice to show) while the chickens...

I'm leaning BO for your pictures. "White" is not the right word for the leg coloring for BO's. Both are yellow-ish fleshy. But there's a pink pale see-through quality to the BO legs. The Buckeye legs were more creamy than pale, and more solid in coloring. Here's a Buckeye chick or two. See how...

Googled pictures of russian almond look like bushes, especially the dwarf type does. Various info here, says it is a "suckering" plant...

@rural mouse Or something in the almond family which prune/apricots are in - like a russian almond?

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Could it be an apricot of some kind? The bark looks like the "prunus" type things. We had two apricots, one died, it needs a second to pollinate. So it mostly never had fruit (one year something DID pollinate it and there were tiny, barely edible fruits). It got fairly wrecked one winter so...

Just FYI the curve of my greenhouse frames did not collapse, the legs supporting it did, as they were on a slight lean. Makes me think if you incorporated a curve to your cover supports that would make it stronger. Have you considered trusses, not beams? Can they be made out of weather-...

Good to know and ask our vet about if this becomes a chronic issue. I have thought that something latent surfaced, his immune system maybe dropped, so then the concern is why, could something else more serious be developing, etc. :idunno Happy to report that he is improving! He has sneezed a...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Yes, in that I tested it out with an egg placed in the litter in the run. The egg in the can is a new sound, plus the contraption is new from yesterday. Hazel came over and observed very closely, head cocked and shifting weight from one foot to the other but not too afraid, and making little...
