Fingers crossed for the lavenders!
My shipped eggs last summer all had detached air sacs but I set them anyways. Didn’t turn for the first 5 days, eventually all the air sacs were saddled, but I hatched in an egg carton and all 6 that developed (the rest were duds) hatched! So there’s still hope!
Well, I’ve learned my lesson on candling a day earlier than I usually do. Typically I do not candle before day 8.
All the “probably going to quit” eggs from day 7 are thriving on day 9! So I’m back up to 12 silkie eggs still in the mix for this hatch!
This might be a short lived hatch-a-long for me.
Candled today at day 7.
7 duds (expected since these Roos always miss)
1 quit (blood ring)
10 appear to be on their way to quitting (will candle again in a couple days to confirm)
2 still viable
I have a black hen and a white hen in with a paint roo and a black roo ( in this particular pen (both blacks from paint pens). But I’m almost certain the white is recessive so no idea what her chicks will look like (if any hatch). I’m hoping my paint roo was hitting the mark with my black hen 🤞🏼...
I’ll hopefully be hatching along with you this month! I set 20 silkie eggs yesterday - 14 from my paint pen and 6 from my mixed colour flock.
Not at all sure about fertilization rate as most of my hens are young and started laying in early January, so big question mark on how many will hatch...
