Chickens Losing Bum Feathers & Poopy Bums (Eight Months Old)

That's so exciting you are a first-time chicken keeper too! They are a lot of work, but they are such sweet little creatures. ☺️ So far, I haven't actually seen any lice/mites. If we did have any, they seem to have gone away when we applied Permethrin several times. I'm so thankful for that...

Aww, that's very kind of you. We worked very hard to make their coop, run, and aviary. I'm so happy with the way it turned out. 😁

Thank you so much! I don't really know anything about vent gleet, but I will read the link you sent and do some research! The hens are still missing their bum feathers currently, but I wasn't sure when they would grow back. 😅 As for the feathers missing on their backs cause of the rooster, we...

@LaFleche, @rosemarythyme, & @aart We have finished three more structures in our aviary for the chickens! Everything is just about finished now. Thank you all for your help. The chickens love it and are super happy! 💗 It wouldn't have been possible without my sister (@Tiffany Wikk), my daddy...

That is a good idea! Thank you very much! My sister made the ladder to hook in so we can move it around with everything else. ☺️

@LaFleche, @rosemarythyme, & @aart My family worked to add more things into the aviary so it isn't as bare. We haven't finished yet, but I wanted to show you all that we took what you said and are working to apply it. ☺️

Thank you so much for your advice! I will try to be careful about the ratio of DE and sulfur. Thank you for the link as well! I will look through that thread and incorporate any things I think would work for our flock. :) --Elspeth Soli Deo Gloria

Thank you for your quick response and advice! I'll add more activities for the chickens to play with. I open up the tunnel from run to aviary in the mornings. They like to travel back and forth between the two. I appreciate experienced chicken keepers giving me their advice.

Hello, @LaFleche ! Thank you so much for the quick response and willingness to read my lengthy post. I hadn't realized the Lavender's feathers could break easier than the others. Thank you for that information! I knew that they had the tail shedder gene cause it was always messy, but I don't...

Chickens Losing Bum Feathers & Poopy Bums (Eight Months Old)

Howdy! This is my first post on Backyard Chickens. I am a first time chicken keeper. I've learned a lot from other threads on this site. However, I haven't found an answer to my particular problem. I mail-ordered chicks (from Chickens for Backyards) back in July of 2023: three Buff...
