I had forgotten this song from my reenacting days.
It's a modern Sea Shanty, (also the unofficial anthem of the Canadian Navy and Atlantic Canada.) Come on guys. that was 210 years ago.
Elwood Francis was hand picked by Hill when he got sick and continues now.
If I saw them before it was in New Orleans at the Warehouse.
They were almost the 'house band' there in the early 70's.
It was an old brick cotton warehouse on Tchoupitoulas Street along the river. Lots of music history...
True dat. My "date" (neighbor) joked that we were actually watching a Skynyrd 'cover band'.
Even with Elwood Francis replacing Dusty Hill (RIP) they were great.
I guess my taste are pretty pedestrian but I remember my parents listening to this when I was about 7 yo. The best example of what my Daddy called "tear jerkers'.
Some have complained about this song lately but the lady seems to be fully in control and knows what she wants. If you haven't seen this clip from the 1949 movie, be sure to catch the second half with Red Skelton at the 2:30 mark.
One of my favorite news feeds highlighted this tune today.
It contains one of my favorite lyrics;
"When you believe in things you don't understand then you suffa!"
Love "Inspite of Ourself'.
First time I saw John Prine was in the '70's at Rosies on Tchoupitoulas St. in New Orleans.
(How can I remember that but I can't remeber the password I created yesterday?)
It was the first time I heard "Sam Stone". Real heartbreaker.
