Babies today
Hear a lost poult, found it 30ft from mom who had 3 with her. Took 2 and left her one. 2 hrs later I heard the one 50 ft away from mom. She was paying no attention to it. Busy eating grass seed.
She couldn't even take care of one :smack :barnie
She had them out in poultry yard...
My first turkeys were people aggressive. They had imprinted on people before I bought them. Bright colors, florescent colors, reflective strips and mirror sunglasses would set them off.
I don't like how commercial meat is raised. Organic in USA doesn't have a lot of room for them to live.
I trade turkey eggs and turkey hens with others that raise grassfed beef and dirt pork.
Sooo what do you all eat, if you eat meat, if you're not eating cockerels?
I want my food to have a good life. That's why I let the broodies hatch.
I have to admit I don't eat extra hens, I sell them. And I have a bunch of retired old hens and roosters that my life would be easier if I would...
Sorry for everyone's losses. It's an epidemic.
I found a 4 year old hen dead under the roost. She was the youngest in that coop. Very active and no sign of illness.
And spell check doesn't like yellowjackets as one word.
I disagree with how far they are in USA. I am the blue dot. Wicki says the red area. They have been here since the 1980s. We also have native ones that are bigger and not quite as aggressive.
I have small wild bees that use abandoned rodent burrows . I first thought they were German yellow jackets because there were so many going in and out. But they are mostly black, smaller and not aggressive. I just don't mow near them.
I have carpenter bees drilling holes in my big hoop coop...
