I have several hens 7-11 years old. Some do not lay and some give me a random egg or so in spring. There combs and faces are bright red except during molt. They are Buff Orp, Cream Legbars, Marans, and home made Easter Eggers. All large fowl. As they get older they will take longer breaks...

One thing I've noticed with my flock is that young birds seem to stay with their group. It's almost like having 2 flocks in one. After the pullets start laying they seem to mesh together more like one flock. I think these girls will work things out eventually. I just integrated 6 pullets...

If you treat with permethrin I would treat a second time in about 10 days to get any hatching mite eggs. Chickens look happy! ❤️

I'm guessing some mite eggs hatched. I would keep putting the cardboard rolls in there also since they work so well.

My chickens always let me know their disproval of any change I make. Their coop has windows all around it. Some are left partially open year round. Some are closed in the coldest part of winter. When I opened them all up in early spring, I had one young hen spend the day staring at them...

Great idea! I like this. This looks like a good way to monitor. By checking every so often you might could catch it before it got so bad.

:love Junior is a cutie! I've seen some here tape crooked toes into place and it corrects if done shortly after hatch. I have no experience with it myself. The toe that hooks under the middle toe would be my concern. I wonder if the toe nail would rub on the bottom of the middle toe and...
