Definitely not a pure Royal Palm but I wouldn't be surprised if the Narragansett gene is in the mix.

Sweetgrass and Fall Fire are two different varieties. Sweetgrass are b1b1 cgcg RR. Fal Fire are b1b1 cgcg Rr. Neither of those combinations bred to a Bourbon Red (bb CC rr) will produce white looking poults.

They are not sex linked. Apparently someone is carrying hidden recessive genes or the turkeys in question are not what you think they are. Bourbon Red tom (bb CC rr) over Sweetgrass hen (b1b1 cgcg RR) yields Red Bronze offspring (bb1 Ccg Rr) which would look similar Bronze poults. The other...

Many people like to buy by sex as poults without having to wait months to find out what they got. Unlike sex links in chickens, male poults are not killed for being males. A specific sex link that works at hatch is a Chocolate tom over Black hens. The Black poults will all be males. The...

Yes they can create sex linked poults. Male turkeys with the brown gene such as Chocolate turkeys can also create sex linked poults. It's a little trickier than that because not all of the offspring from the crosses are different enough from each other at hatch to be able to sex them right then.

I couldn't find a specification for live weight but it may be about 20 lbs. for a Rio Grande tom. That would make it similar in size to Royal Palm turkeys.

There's good reason that it is on the small side. It is not a juvenile male. It is a bearded hen. You can see more bearded hens here. Let's See Your Bearded Turkey Hens

White with the size being similar to the Holland. What I got was a Red Bronze but other varieties are a possibility. It would have one copy of the broad breasted gene but there are other things involved with why BBW are so big (selective breeding) than just the broad breasted gene. I have had...

The Sweetgrass derived from that crossing may be slightly smaller than Sweetgrass that have not gone through that crossing which is due to the different body characteristics of the two varieties but it is definitely not an average since Royal Palms are significantly smaller than Sweetgrass. The...

It is true and is based on more than the APA designation. The term breed is so misused that it no longer has a specific definition. Turkeys are all derived from the same haploid group. All turkeys other than the Ocellated turkey are the genus species Meleagris gallopavo. An example of...

A 33 lb. bird will dress out about 22 lbs. A 6 month old heritage tom may get to 18 lbs. live weight and dress out around 12 lbs. if one of the larger varieties.

Wild turkeys are also varieties other than the Ocellated turkey which is a different species. I have seen wild turkeys which are every bit as big as the bigger heritage varieties. No, the APA has left open the possibility of adding Color as a subdivision of Variety but it has not been added at...

Check local sources. Your desire to have a turkey that doesn't exceed 20 lbs. needs to be clarified as to whether this is a live weight or a processed weight. Any of the heritage varieties will have males that dress out around 20 lbs. All of the hens of heritage varieties will be under 20 lbs.

All domestic turkeys are the same breed Turkey. They are different varieties. This is an error on their part because the title and thinking that they are separate breeds is wrong. The APA lists one breed for domestic turkeys and that breed is Turkey. The different varieties can have...
