Saipan Junglefowl would make a very interesting mix. As far as I'm aware they're the only feral Malayoid out there. You may end up making an ideal genetic foundation for an American malayoid landrace Around 80 years ago the US Army wanted to create a feral chicken for North America but their...

He's definitely far more handsome than his father, and not even at 7 months old yet

He's one of the chicks in this image, along with his 1 year old dad and adoptive mother. This was taken on June 15th of 2023. I'm not very good with chick ages, but I think these look around a week old. So on January 8th he should be 7 months old

Summer rain has been hard on my Asil mother. She's down from 22 babies to 4. It's sad to see such loss, but at the same time I'm sure the survivors are tough as nails

I only have one Asil here and she's both incredibly peaceful and our most ferocious mother here. Nobody messes with her and she doesn't mess with anyone. My birds are all completely free-range though

According to wikipedia, there are many different "varieties" of Asil scattered across Asia- If this information is anywhere near accurate it makes me suspect that Asil is more of a slang term rather than one that refers to objective genetic definitions. Kind of like Easter Egger

    The aseel thread!!!

My one and only Asil hen just hatched her first clutch of eggs. 21 chicks. She is an absolutely ferocious mother and won't allow other birds within six feet of her babies She went broody on an old egg dump underneath my house, so she probably has a huge assortment of chicken breeds following...

I just read this claim about Asil on the internet. Realistic or madness?

Interesting. Somehow I missed the link that you had provided In any case, brain mass means very little. There's many animals with larger brains than humans (whales, dolphins, elephants, etc.) that are also less intelligent than humans. This is simply because they need a large brain in order to...

    The aseel thread!!!

Domestication is the retention of neotenous traits into adulthood. From my observation so far, all domesticated animals are weaker and less intelligent than their wild counterparts It's odd to hear the opposite with your chickens. Perhaps you simply don't have the wild and domesticated side by...
