All that made it to lock down hatched. 62.5% hatch rate on my bought maran eggs. 0% on mine and only 1 dud out of the OEs.

So I stopped got a small bag of feed from TSC cause of course my feed dealer is a week out on my chick feed. Found my small tote/temp brooder got that cleaned up, found my feeders and waters, cleaned out cages for other critters. Finally make it upstairs to check for pips to find that early...

Lock down yesterday. Saw a shadow on 1. Draw down on all but 2 eggs, possible late quiters. Expecting pips tonight or tomorrow. Means I should probably get the brooder set up and go buy feed. :oops:

You need a Really strong flashlight, and full dark to see much of anything in a Maran or dark green egg. I have a small tactical flashlight that works pretty well. I have to be careful about how long I keep it on the eggs cause it gets Hot.

Day 11: 4 quitters. 3 Maran and the last was my only flock egg to develop. 1 ring of death, 3 early quits.

Not sure if you had a way to heat water, but a hot water bottle would have helped keep the temps up. So would Hot hands. Those work really well. Sorry I didn't see this till today. Hope they all hatch!

Did you manage to figure out how to keep them warm?

All but 1 of my home bred eggs are clears. Kind of excited for the one that's growing. I've wanted a chick from this hen for 3 yrs. None have ever been fertile. 2 of my Marans are clears, 2 are questionable, I was expecting way worse.

What's the best day to candle for signs of life with Maran eggs? I have a pretty strong flashlight but it'll still be hard to tell with how dark some of these are.

Eggs are set. Some Purchased BBS Maran and maran/x as well as a small test run if my new Roo has done his job at all. Expecting a poor hatch rate all around.

Tentatively adding my name to the list. Depends on if I can get the BCM haiching eggs I want in time or not.
