Every time I go to tsc here in Ada ok they don’t have any chicks. They had four buff Orpingtons one time and they didn’t look too great. But I’ve got 26 healthy little lavender Orpingtons. 👍🏻🐣

Phew! So far 17 chicks have hatched and doing well. 9 more to go. 🤞🏻

I set up the brooder. I use a pack and play. I put down puppy pads and set up the heat plate which I covered with press and seal. I’ve candled a few today. It’s day 20. Several look like they’re working on an internal pip. 👍🏻🙏 no external pips yet though. Living on the edge of that incubator!

Today is lockdown day for me. I pulled the eggs and took out the turner and placed the silicone mat that I use in the incubator for hatching. It has a raised pattern on one side and smooth on the other. It has worked well in my last two hatches. I candled all my remaining eggs and all look...

Had two more quitters last night. All of remainder seem active and strong. I’ll candle again on Saturday. Can’t wait to see how many lavenders I get. The eggs were labeled lavender and buff. I am wanting to add a couple lavender hens to my flock and maybe a cockerel for breeding.

Had to toss two quitters today. I just checked the few that were questionable when I candled on day seven. I’ll candle the rest tonight or tomorrow night. I find that it gets harder to candle as they fill the egg. This is the first time I’ve set eggs that were not from my own hens. 🤞🏻🐣

I just candled mine. Day 7 only 3 looked questionable at this point. I’ll keep my eye on those closely. I wasn’t sure how fertile these bought egg’s would be. They’re from an auction and I didn’t talk to whoever were selling them. 🤞🏻

So the ones I set last Saturday will barely squeak in. They should hatch 23 or 24th. I set thirty eggs. 😬
