Same thing is said about the Chinese Talo here. Bees love talo. I have a couple on my place but they don’t really seem to be invading anything. As a matter of fact, I tried to transplant a sprout last year and it died! 😫
I feel your pain. We have lived here 17 years and had a garden every year but one. The soil is terrible. Instead of red clay, it’s red sand. Triple 13 and chicken poop to the rescue.
That’s a lot of honey! I don’t know if you’re familiar with Mr Ed (Jeff Horchoff) on YT, but he manages A LOT of hives and he don’t come anywhere close to 5000 lbs.
I forget way more than I remember. Have you ever posted pics of your long hive? I really want to build one but I feel I need to establish that I can keep them alive in a simpler hive first.
I will gladly take good advice from any source, but The Adirondacks aren’t exactly local😂. It’s fairly easy to tell from reading here, who knows what they are talking about. I’m sure I’ll be seeking input and advice from this experienced group.
I do have a mentor. I would never take this on without someone to guide me. He’s in his 5th season of beekeeping now and has grown to around 12 separate hives now. He really has a knack for it.
I’m just starting to get into bees and someone shared a link to this thread. It’s been some very interesting reading, but there’s no way I’m going to read the whole thing. The later stuff don’t seem to have any posts from the OP. How did his bees turn out? Did Ralphie get mad and give up on bees?
