We have a full basement with a concrete floor. I lay out large sections of cardboard to catch all the drips. I borrowed an extractor last year but, like you, I bought a bunch of used equipment and now we have our own extractor.

I did a quick check this past Saturday. The new deeps I added on both hives have 4 good, fat drawn frames and they are working on the other 5 fast and furious. If they can continue this pace the deep supers will be full or close to it by end of June. I know it sounds like I’m counting my...

Yes, holly is blooming like crazy here too! Really everything is blooming except for the really early stuff. Red maple, privet, etc. Tallow will be out before ya know it.

Bees are doing the bee dance! It makes me smile to see them do that. That says strong colony to me. The true meaning may remain a mystery, but I think they’re telling me they are happy!😊

Even as a new beekeeper I have a hard time liking those plastic boxes 🤨

You’re putting this nuc into a 10 frame setup? You could leave them in the nuc a bit longer to grow numbers. I will say this… Kamon Reynolds will shake a frame from this box and that box and walk away with tons of success.

beesource.com is a really big bee forum. It would be like the bee version of BYC, I think. Lots of info on there.

My 2 colonies from last year are doing great. I have 2 medium supers almost full of honey, not all capped. I added a deep with 9 frame spacers to each colony. That should keep them busy for a while. Those new frames are covered with a nice fresh layer of beeswax that I rendered from last year’s...

No one really knows. There’s lot of theories. You can google it and decide which one you like the best😂. Mine do it a lot but some of the northern beekeepers say it’s a rare occasion for them.

The last of the Spring honey. I checked hives Saturday and there’s not much to talk about. Very little nectar in the supers so I’m splitting the 2 supers on my Langstroth between the 2 hives. I’m putting the long hive colony back in a traditional Langstroth. They are letting small hive beetles...

Well, dang… it didn’t work. I know there’s a way to make “Live Photos” play on here, but it doesn’t want to cooperate.

Between rain showers, I got my 2 colonies semi inspected and set up for the Fall flow. It’s gonna be a while here in MS, but I’m bad about procrastinating and letting premium time get by me. I’m ready this time. The bees in the long hive are starting to draw comb on those new deep foundations. I...

@Apis mellifera How do you get the excess wax cappings out of your strainers? All those little bits that stick in there after the bees have cleaned up all the honey.

Kaymon is a wealth of information. It can be like drinking from a firehose. Having a mentor that you can call on for advice and actual help doing things is invaluable. Congrats on your first split! You’re way ahead of me 😁.

It’s so hot today (102F). I wanted to do some bee changes and check out my long hive, which I haven’t opened since I put the bees inside. Yard work took up the cooler morning hours, so the bees get another day of peace and harmony.
