    The Wally-Gee Bee Journey 🐝

From what I read, the bees love catalpa. There’s several in the pasture beside my sister’s house where the bees keep coming back year after year. So, there may be something to it.

These guys in south Louisiana are already pulling honey supers because of the massive privet flow. They’re extracting honey and putting supers back on for the talo flow, which is supposed to be even better than the privet flow. Not having that late freeze like last year has made a huge...

I did some checkerboarding as well to get those pesky outside deep frames drawn out. I have zero drawn comb on my medium frames, so it’s all a fresh start up top. One box has a queen excluder and the other does not. Not intentional, but one was all I had. I’m very curious about the outcome of...

The bees are working like crazy! I want to look so bad but ima leave them alone for now. The pic doesn’t reflect it, but both colonies are in overdrive. How’s everyone else doing so far?

So, today I HAD to deal with the swarm trap. The bearding and ball of bees on the bottom spoke to me. The red deep box, I built it too tight and could only fit 9 frames. The 10th wouldn’t quite squeeze in. Lots of brood, pollen and nectar with some capped honey along the top of the frames. I had...

I got a random phone call this afternoon from my very good bee friend. “I’m going to the bee yard, wanna ride?” Of course, I said yes. I’m now the proud owner of a very heavy swarm trap. He doesn’t know how long they have been in there. Probably gonna be some cutting involved. Who cares? More bees!

I noticed that sketchy pattern. I was semi concerned. Now that you mention it, I’m definitely concerned.

Maybe y’all can find the queen here but it’s a good chance she was somewhere else. Brood and capped brood here so I figure this was my best chance to see her. I couldn’t get my phone to cooperate with the gloves. I need to find my big girl britches and do it without gloves. The capped honey was...

If you suspect robbing, the entrance should be small so that colony can defend the hive easier. I wish I could say yes or no but still very much the novice.

Is this a drone? I know the lighting is bad. The sun was going down. It is a lot bigger than the others and seems to have a blunt butt.

I never gave much credit to the holly trees on my place. In fact, I hated them until today. As I walked from one chicken coop to the other, I heard the sound of many bees above my head. I was walking under a holly tree. The blooms were covered with my little forager girls! The holly trees...

The very small swarm that I had last year made it without feeding until I made the huge mistake of letting water pond on the bottom board, resulting in a huge amount of brood dying. This swarm is much larger than that one.

I agree about the entrance. I actually have a reducer for it. You’re only seeing a moment in time. They are zooming in and out of there like crazy. Pollen and nectar are in abundance. The evidence is in the comb. I did see lots of nectar and some uncapped honey. The pollen is coming in as well...
