I checked my hive today and saw some capped brood and some larva. My eyes aren’t good enough to see the eggs. 🤷♀️
But I quit looking once I found capped brood and larva so I’m assuming the Queen is still there. 😊🐝
I’m going to see if I can get my friend’s husband ( a bee keeper with experience !) to come over and help me do a mute count. I’ve never done one before. When I had bees before this is when my mentor became too busy to be able to mentor me any more. I’m also hoping he will have advice for...
So I got into my hive again a few days ago. They still aren't doing much of anything in the super, but the 2nd deep is almost all honey. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to fix this. I don't know if I have a 3rd deep. I'll have to look in the basement and see what's still down there. If I do have...
Checked my hive, well, only the super, yesterday. My smoker’s lid is stuck shut so I couldn’t use it. Plus it was looking like it was going to start raining at any moment.
The super has been on for 2 or 3 weeks (I was afraid it was going to be full up, so was checking to see if I needed to add a...
She was in a nuc. A local one from my state ( Missouri ) but a few hours south of me.
I watched the lady at the store mark her and she’s the one that said the seller was supposed to send them pre-marked but hadn’t and that she was an overwintered queen.
I was able to get back into my hive a few days ago. Still didn’t see the Queen. Even with a magnifying glass I didn’t see any eggs. But I haven’t own up these pictures on my computer yet to see if I can find any that way. The Queen is supposed to be marked with white.
@duluthralphie I agree that the first section looks like uncapped honey.
@BirdsBeesTrees I didn’t include a picture of their capped honey but it is much whiter in color than what is shown which is why I think the yellow capped is probably brood. Sometimes the capped brood is browner but I was...
2nd picture. I just blew on them a little to get them to move so I could see what was under them better.
Do you agree with me that this is capped brood?
My bee hive is doing great {as long as the queen is still there 🙏}.
I had just hived them 2 days before we left town and had given them almost 10 frames of already drawn comb. I was able to check on them for the first time the day after we got home {11 days after they went in}.
They were...
I’m going to try bees again this Spring/Summer. Hopefully I can do a better job with mite control and small hive beetles as that is what I think led to the downfall of my hives the year before last. I let my hives sit empty for a year and am hoping that all the cold freezing temperatures we are...
The comb is all good, well there are some frames with holes where I was going after small hive beetles. Then my husband accidently got over spray of Flex Seal on 5 or 6 medium frames, so I figure those are ruined. I don't think the bees can clean those up, but I'm not sure about that either...
I am trying to decide if I want to order 2 packages of bees for the 2 hives that left/died out or just get 1 package/nuc like I did last year. I am pretty sure that I have to do a MUCH better job in regards to mites and small hive beetles. I think those are what weakened my hives so much. I also...
