Yeah, it’s been mainly impacting the dairy/raw milk users…but they had a couple big poultry outbreaks at Metzer and a backyard flock up north so they decided to cut things off before they could get started I guess. I’m just hoping it helps allow us to still have the County Fair at the end of...
Ahhh congratulations!! I’m jealous you still get to have poultry shows! They canceled all of ours because of HPAI :-(
We did have some success at the two we were able to go to—but I’m super bummed that our season ended before I could really show off my black pullet as she is finally filling...
Red Roof Hens in NC has a bantam line of BBS Ameraucanas and some other project colors. I have some of her BBS and while they’re not perfect, they’re healthy and great temperament and a great starting point. Some of her line and their sons I mixed with another line I have. :-)
I like him! His tail is high and makes his back look short, but he has really great color and a nice full muff and beard, and a nice wide and deep looking chest. I’d see how he does as a breeder before discounting him. He may make some very nice ladies with that type! 😍
Almost like he’s trying to say “I’m tough now Dad, do you see me staring you down?? I’m scaring you aren’t I?? Are you impressed with me? Dad, Dad, are you looking?? Look at me!!!” 😆😆😆
I’ve not been on in awhile, so much going on!! But I did take a couple of pictures of my bantam blue grow outs. I’m quite happy with the lacing I’m getting on my roosters! This guy especially. 😍 My blacks were a failed pairing this year, and my blues were going to simply be extras from the...
Some of my BBS bantam grow outs 😍
Plus the last two pics are two FREE pullets a woman gave me 😍 The brown red girl appears to be beardless, but Fudge is a really pretty girl 🥰 Gotta love free Ameraucanas!
That’s funny! I’ve not had a bantam Ameraucana that’s broody yet, and Bonnie is very uninterested in the whole thing! 🤪 I got 6 eggs to develop and hatch and 5 of them died within the first week :-( So I have one lonely girl I’m hoping grows up strong.
Got my first wheaten bantams to hatch! I think anyway 😆 They’re really white…is that common? I’m used to seeing a bit of black on them and more of a yellow down. So sweet though! 😍
Exactly! This is what real mentorship and guidance looks like. Is that the Katherine Plummer out here? I know a Katherine that shows Rosecombs here in CA. She’s really nice and down to Earth. :)
Yeah, there are a lot of very opinionated people in that group!! I definitely agree with you that it’s a silly and sort of made up thing when they insist it’s something else entirely if the phenotype isn’t perfect. While I totally agree with @pipdzipdnreadytogo that the reason makes sense—the...
I am with you @NagemTX ! I find the Ameraucana breed groups to be a fickle bunch that likes to pick at you about everything. Very rarely do you get useful mentoring types of help…it’s very frustrating! Which one made you mad today? 😆
Totally did this with my d’Anvers! I just assumed they wouldn’t…until they had a group of them on 18 eggs! 😆 Oops! My blue Ameraucana hen likes to team up with my broody Orpingtons every year too—I didn’t expect that either. It’s funny how some you just expect while others just don’t give you...
Yes, you would need to keep crossing down the line. But you also have to consider the genetic quality of the line and back cross to a wheaten unrelated every now and then.
