    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

Maybe this is related to what you were saying- This is what I was thinking of when i said the silver gene, I didn't know the exact phrase until I saw something today about it with silkies. Couldn't these guys be silver based white?

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

No dark feet on the parents- But the owner told me a hen just hatched a couple of her eggs from the pen, they're also silver/gray in color. I didn't ask if she got any with dark skin, I'll do that later on. The reason I mentioned the silver gene was because when speaking with the lady I got my...

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

Hey, so the chicks have been feathering in really white- Could the silver gene be at play here? Or is just the Recessive white playing tricks? I'm still confused about the one with dark feet though. This one is tiny compared to other two: (1) (2) Dark footed one: (3)

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

one of them does- there's 3 total. 2 have the white/pink skin, 1 has dark feet. Other then that they look the same color wise- maybe a few a tad lighter.

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

I don't hatch from mine anymore- These recent ones are from a friends whites I hatched from. And they're coming out like this-

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

I've got a friend who breeds paint silkies- she tells me white can go with paint as long as they are Recessive white. If they're dominant they'll throw partridge. Probably what's happening here. I've just had it happen actually 😂 The ones in my pfp is my paint pair- I have a white satin in with...

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

I'll find out later about the different roo thing. I don't think anyone is working on paint cochin from what I've seen, it's been asked about but it always goes back to being a very hard task since white cochins are recessive white. So I'd think if tried by anyone, it'd be a failed task...

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

Okay that makes sense. (For the most part.) But what about that dark skin? I talked with her about chances of other hens being in the pen, she told me that's highly unlikely, as they're locked up separately. Not sure about how long she's had them with that roo though, I'll ask. Literally every...

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

@NatJ @pipdzipdnreadytogo @BlueTheBrahma I didn't think I'd be back to this so soon, but here I am. 3 weeks ago I was given some eggs to try an hatch from friend. They're from her white cochins. She's never hatched from them before and only gave me 3 eggs just so I could test them for her. 2...

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

My new cochin boy I know carries the silver gene- he has a lot of that yellow also- but It's from pine trees and the corn in their diet i believe. Pretty birds! I'm surprised those photos of my boy don't show more of his yellow- it's a lot more visible then what it tells us.

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

I've experimented on the buff laced/silver laced polish actually. I only ever had the offspring up until 2 weeks at most and rehomed them- But i got poorly laced buff laced and all white. I believe the ones showing buff would be pullets and the all white would be males, right?

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

Well I won't be hatching from that roo anymore- He just got rehomed today with one of his hens that had some flaws. He has been replaced with a stunning new boy I'm quite excited about. He came from a breeder who says he has the silver gene, but she said all that means is he'll look extra white...

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

You definitely shouldn't- Creates a frazzle. I've only heard bad things about it and the birds have never looked the prettiest. The feathers will fall part.

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

The sand works great for us! Sure does last a while. We've used it over hardware cloth to keep things from digging in from under the pen. It's gotta be a thick layer of sand though.

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

Here's an update. The white with leakage definitely has more red and i think I see black starting up now also. The barred chick is looking more splash than anything now, only the tips of the wings show that barring we were seeing. I'm really curious about that one and what it'll grow up into...

    Guys? Confusion? 🤔

Well it'll be fun to see all these rainbow babies grow- I'd still like to better understand it. Even if we can't be 100% sure of everything.
