I just lost a hen to egg yolk peritonitus. I read that people had great success with Duramycin-10. However it seems impossible to find. No one has it in stock in stores or on line. Also I was told you need a script from your vet.
I finally found a local store with Terra-Vet 10 Tetra cyclilne Hydrochloride Soluble Solution which has exact same thing (25g of tetrahydrochloride activity/pound) as Duramycin...same exact language on the package, no script required. I'm starting my other hen on it as a precaution because she's been pooping yellowing loose stools after a solid one. Has anyone had any experience with this Terra-Vet 10 ?
Anyway if you've been looking for Duramycin-10 maybe this will help some folks.

Dosage is very close as @SunHwaKwon has noted.

Terra-Vet dosage is 1.5 Tablespoons per gallon.

hmmmm. For dosage I was going from Poultrypedia.com chicken medicine chart.
They say

1/8 tsp/cup (which is equal to 2 tsp/gallon (much less than 1.5 T which is equal to 4.5 tsp)

I very rarely look at poultry pedia's medicine chart. It is a good reference for list of meds and what they are suited for, I'm not sure if the dosages are updated regularly or not. Personally I trust @casportpony (Kathy's) math and her dosage recommendations. She takes quite a bit of time to weigh the packages and powders before posting.

Again, that is why to check your package and do the calculations.

Another suggestion is to take a fecal sample to your vet for testing. Yellow poop can be an indication of EYP, worms or other bacterial infection. Your vet can test for worms to rule those out.
If it is EYP, then antibiotic treatment is usually a short term remedy. Supportive care along with antibiotics is helpful. Add some poultry vitamins to her water, give probiotics and offer some extra protein like egg, tuna, mackerel or meat. Fresh feed and a little bit leafy greens and/or fruit are good too.

Unfortunately we don't have a poultry vet anywhere near.
The exotics vet (he sees lots of birds and every other type
of animal) I took my hen who died for a necropsy said
she died of 'some rupture in her reproductive tract', he said
it looked like scrambled eggs all over inside and foul smelling.
It was only after I posted about this here that I learned about egg
yolk peritonitis, he never even used that term. So I don't think
he is all that knowledgeble about chickens. I did have the stool of my surviving
hen/my pigeon, and my ring necked dove all tested and the pigeon came
up positive for worms. So he told me to give all of them Pyrantel Pameote in their
water for 5 days which I did.
My hen is broody now, when I take her out of her coop (at least 3 times a day)
she makes a large solid stool, then a much smaller solid one, then a looser yellowish one
(which is what worries me). Is this normal ??
She's not interested in eating much right now, but she's
obviously eating if she's pooping. I'll try some of the things you suggested.

For those that might be interested, I just weighed some of the TerraVet 10
Target dose for one cup is 50 mg. I have two tsp sets.


Set One
1/3 tsp weighed 1.08 grams, so 59.4 mg

Set Two
1/8 tsp weighed 0.5 grams, so 27.5 mg
1/4 tsp weighed 1.03 grams, so 56.65 mg

Help! I can not find the Duramycin or the Terra-Vet 10 anywhere online. My local feed stores now tell me I have to get a prescription for it from the vet and then go to the pharmacy.

Got any good leads? Thanks

Welcome to BYC! You might be able to find some on eBay or Amazon, or you could try using injectable oxytetracyline, which is stil available at feed stores.
