Looking through some of the hatcheries specials I came across Cackle Hatchery's Hatchery Surprise. It is 39.95. Below is what I copied and pasted below. My question is- Has anybody got this assortment before and is it really a bargain? Also has anyone ordered from Cackle before. Would like some feedback from those who have . It doesn't make clear what kind of birds and was wondering if this possibley includes ducks and geese also.

Thanks - Wayne

My sister ordered it for my grandmother two years ago. If I recall correctly there were 2 turkeys, 2 ducks and 45 chickens. There were alot of different breeds. Some I remember are Polish, Cochins, Black Stars, Leghorns, Buff Orps. For the price we were really pleased. She didn't loose a single in shipping. Hope that helps.

Yeah I've noticed that turkeys and geese are really expensive. I may order this special yet. Just wanted to get some input from other people who had orded it. Thanks you guys for the responses!!

St. run RIR's to be shipped on the 16th of March(my oldest nieces B-day) LOL I hope I get a good mix. I called in my order and told the Lady I wanted a good mix. I have a few kinds of chickens, few ducks, 4 geese, few pigeons, goats, rabbits...etc. I like variety!!!

She told me the later the hatch date the better the possible mix it may be.

I forwarded the infor about this special to a friend in my yahoo chicken club and he emailed me back in about 10 minutes and had ordered it. Guess that makes me an enabler- He's going to let me know how it turns out too.

I ordered this last May. This is what I received :
1 Goose- gander, chinese
2 turkeys -both toms, 1 bbb, 1bbw
2 guineas- both female, both pearl
2 ducks- both female, one crested blue swedish, one cayuga
about 30 chicks
2 female california white
1 pair buttercups
2 female light brahmas
2 pair silver laced wyandotte
2 female cochins
2 female red shouldered yokohama
1 pair white crested blue polish
2 pair white crested black polish
4 male silver laced polish
2 female jersey giants
6 male and 1 female buff orpington

One orpington had a crossed beak, but all others were healthy. Quality was good, not show quality, but very nice for a hatchery.

Hope this helps!

Thanks It is very helpful- I'm gonna forward this thread to my friend who ordered this right after I emailed him about it. I guess I'm a chicken enabler.

They sure do have a lot of new 'bargain specials' compared to last year! Too bad I'd already bought my chicks for the year, but I'm happy with supporting the locals. Cackle Hatchery is about a 90 min drive (Lebanon MO) from my house, whereas Griffiths is only 30 minutes (Fulton MO).

Still, I'd like to make a trip down there to Cackle Hatchery sometime at THOSE awesome prices for some of the more rare breeds/ bargain specials. But I've reached my husband's chicken limit, so in a few months I'll probably sell the ones that aren't cuddly perfect angel chickens.

Maybe someday when I'm not living in a subdivision, I can get more
