Alright, I just want to get a few questions cleared up -

Chickens get egg colour from legs,
--------------------------------------------------------------------
EEs lay green eggs cause of their green legs,
--------------------------------------------------------------------
True Ameraucanas don't have green legs,
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright, here's my last question -
If TRUE Ameraucanas don't have green legs
how do they lay green eggs?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for any answers,
Joe

Not true. Usually, red earlobes mean brown eggs and white earlobes indicate white eggs, but not always.

Nope, some lay brown or blue. Leg color is irrelevant.

True Ameraucanas don't have green legs

True, they are not supposed to. They should have slate colored legs.

As you see above, the leg color has nothing to do with egg color.

Joe, the egg color, just like your eye color, is programmed into their genes. And yes, it's true that the more eggs they lay, the more color drains from their legs. If you see a chicken with bright yellow legs, you can bet it isn't laying or has barely started.

Naturally, I'm speaking of yellow-legged chickens. The beaks of yellow-beaked hens also lose color as they lay more and more eggs. Then they take a break to molt and after a rest, alot of the color returns.

Sounds kinda like me! Before kids I was nicely tanned, wore make up etc....
After the first kid, the tan disapeared, not time to hang out on the beach or pool - second child totally blew off ALL the color!

Good thing chickens don't go grey with age!
