How to make a cement bird bath out of a leaf

edited to say that I got this idea from an old gardening magazine

start off with making a mound of sand and covering with saran wrap

step1.jpg

Find big leaf I use a weed I think it is called burdock (whatever it is it grown burrs so I always cut it down before that happens) you can use a rhubarb leaf as well. Place over saran wrap

step2.jpg

Put cement over thinly about 1/4 inch

step3.jpg

wrap in saran again

step4.jpg

let dry like that

step45.jpg

Peel off leaf once dry I use chips to stabalize and keep from breaking as I work, you can scrub off with hard brush what does not peel easily

step5.jpg

step6.jpg

Now for the base I use a cardboard tube at home depot meant for piles

step7.jpg

Fill with cement put on saran wrap

step8.jpg

Place leaf and push down gently to create dip in cement for it to sit in, then remove and let dry for several days

step9.jpg

then peel back paper leaving pillar and paint you can use any paint as long as you use a cement water tight sealer over or you can use a non toxic cement stain with out sealant.

step11.jpg

step12.jpg

all done

Those are amazing!!! I'll never look at my burdocks the same way again! (That is what I call them too, but I'm not sure I'm right.)
I definitely want to make one or two.

Yep, the Golden and the Aussie always had trouble with them too. I just went out to see how big the leaves on my rhubarb are getting!!
