PLEASE HELP! I just found my young pullet like this. All fine at 6 AM. Then this 11 - 12 week old pullet looking statuesque, with beak to ground, as if unable to raise up and droopy wing. Is able to walk about, so far. Here are photos..
I am including photos of the environment also, the run, roosts, and litter.

I just thought of something. DS used some "vegetation killer," on our driveway. The chicks free range for a couple hours in the evening, but can not get up there. BUT, what if he had some on his shoes and walked near the run or something???? I can't think of anything else.

I'm not sure.

I'm going to guess no on the shoe thing.

I'll try and check the chicken health handbook later.

Try giving her some electrolytes for the time being?

Hmmm... This is a bit strange and I'd have to do some more digging and reading to get an idea as to what it wrong exactly.

Oh, please help.... I don't know what to do. I took her out, and set her up in a hosptial with electrolyes in water and yogurt mash. What else should I do? I'm helpless here. I don't even know if she is eating or drinking. I will have to watch. I have not seen poo yet.

I think she looks worse. She is not eating, not drinking, no poo. WHAT IS IT? She does walk around.
Let me think...
Food is fresh, new bag a couple days ago, smelled nice and fresh. Fresh water twice a day. Coop is relatively clean; I scoop poo off the droppings board every AM.

1) What type of bird , age and weight.
11 - 12 weeks old Budd Orpington, weight good, feels plump as usual.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Beak to ground, droopy wings, does walk about when startled or I come near, but keeps head down.
3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
no
4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
no
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Fresh food (Purina medicated Starter/Grower)
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
have not seen her poo yet
7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Put her in hospital crate, electrolytes in water, yogurt mash. Though she is not eating or drinking that I have so far seen.
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
I want to treat myself.
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
photos
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use
Large coop, pine bedding, fresh food and fresh water at all times. Free ranges 2 hours each evening.

:(It's happening all over northern Cali. Most new chicks start getting droppy wings (and i'm so sorry to say this) and die. I got 8 new chicks a few weeks ago from my local feed store they were free since someone had brought them in unwanted. 2 got droppy wings and died. It's sometype of bird flu. The owner of the local feed store told me it's been happening all around this year to chicks. He took a few (

died) chicks to davis college for further examination, to find out what it is.

I have about a hundred chickens, Make sure you seperate any other chickens you have from the droopy one it might spread.

I know she is dying. Question is .... WHY????
I have done everything I thought I was suppose to. I don't know, maybe I shouldn't have chickens. Maybe I wasn't careful enough, somehow. I went to the feed store a couple days ago, but I am sure I had on differnt shoes. DS and DD were with me, maybe they didn't change shoes?
My chicks were not vaccinated for anything, should they have been? I bought them at Orschlin's, they came from Estes Hatchery. I have 44. They are about 12 weeks old. I have not dealt with losing one. I don't think I can....
I don't want to do this anymore...

I'm gonna go get another picture.
