Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

Thanks! Yup, these are my first call ducks. I guess, I will see how it goes!
I had the hardest time sexing my pastel's by their voices. Vent sexing is how I figured it out. I had been worried about trying it as I didn't want to hurt them and never tried it with ducks. I watched some videos. So I had an idea. It was easy compared to voice sexing. I now know what I have (2 drake's, 4hen's). Wish you the best with your little one's

Hello!
Does anybody have tips on how to tame 2 month old call ducks? I have started to hold each one every night for 10 minutes, it takes them a few minutes to calm down, but after they relax and I pet them. They are currently eating Turkey Starter, but since they are all feathered out, what should I be feeding them now?

Thanks!
flock raiser

i would get them off of the turkey food it doesnt have all the stuff they need i think.

they really should not have ever been on turkey starter. It is way too high in protein and does not have the correct ratio of nutrients for ducks of any kind. Too high of protein tends to lead to wing development issues. I would opt for Purina flock raiser. It is 20% protein and designed to raise and grow ducks on. That is all I use here for starter/grower. It really is a good feed.

As far as taming them just keep doing what you're doing. It takes time to get them to settle in to being handled. Treats are always a plus on getting their attention too.

Okay, I should buy chicken grower? When should I feed them layer food?

whatever you get them make sure it says it is for growing ducks also. Dumor chock atarter/grower is another good one. It is sold by Tractor supply co.

I keep ous on flock raiser until they are 5 to 6 months old and at that time I put them on our custom mix feed (which would be equivalent to store bought layer).

Can anybody tell me what color they think he'll be? I had originally thought black bibbed, but he's getting a lot of brown coloring on his face...

Morty, next to my boyfriend's fingers. I feel like he's pretty small, even for a call?! He has the personality of a 200lb Rottweiler, though! Lol!!!
