Does this bird look heterozygous or homozygous for the naked neck gene? I got them from a friend and he has turkens, but also a mixed flock. The rooster has a sister just like him. Just curious. I am saving eggs from him and two Olive Egger hens now to see what they produce. I think he may have some Leghorn in his makeup by the looks of him.

Does your coop have enough ventilation? He looks like he has a bit of frost bite.

He free ranged all winter with his sister and many others. He roosted in an open chicken house with plenty of ventilation some, but also roosted in a tree some also. Not much you can do about that. We deal with frost bite every year when the temperature gets frigid and our pens/coops have plenty of ventilation and wind break. It just happens to the roosters with very large combs. The frost bitten tips are dry and will auto amputate. Some of that is also battle scars from fighting with birds through wire as he has just recently been caught and put in a brood pen. Especially on his wattles. But thank you for your concern.
