well hubby couldn't do the deed and i can't even squish a spider so.. we brought him in and stalled about putting him down.. till evening.. i thought hubby was out there taking care of it.. but he was out in the back acreage.. pulling weeds around the fruit trees.. so i sweated and sobbed for nothing... well he wouldn't eat or drink at all that night.. so i knew tomorrow would be the day.. but the next morning he took from my hand scrambled egg.. then he took a drink.. then he ate another scrambled egg.. then he started to eat his mash and drink alot.. so we watched for another day.. well today is sunday and he is out with his hens and doing good,, he doesn't peck the ground like he used to but he is trying to pick grass and calling his hens over for whatever he finds.. and since he is eating on his own.. we have decided to let him be.. if he ever snags it the rest of the way .. then we will decide then.. but so far so good.. thank you all for your help

That's a tough one. The beak has probably lost its blood supply (the part that looks like its flaked off) and will likely fall off, but it can offer some protection until then. I wouldn't super-glue it down, you'll trap bacteria in there. I guess I would trim the loose parts off that pull up easily, leave the rest down. That way he shouldn't get more gunk trapped in there. Clean it at least daily, and maybe start him on antibiotics.

That looks horrible, I think if it were me I'd be culling it. They eat alot of poo and poo carrys staph which other birds and yourself can get. That won't be a tough call for me

my birds don't "eat" poo, do yours? i would isolate him in a clean pen or cage (without dirt) for alittle while, and flush to keep it clean until you can see how if it's healing.

i flushed his beak with water to get out dirt then i flushed with hydrogen peroxide.. then tried to dab on neosporin.. he won't drink or eat.. i think too much pain. so he is inside in a cage with a deep/ tall glass of water and the same with soggy mash.. this way i can tell if he eats or drinks over night.. he is crowing and very active.. but won't use his beak to eat or drink.... i tried scrambled egg but he just held it then dropped it.. hurts too much i think.. i tried putting wet food in syringe and squirting it but no luck.. hopefully he won't be as sore tomorrow.. what type of antibiotic do you recommend? i have tylan but i don't think that is what i need.. and should i give it as a shot or in water? thank you for any and all help.. i will try to save him it is breaking my heart.. if not eating in a couple of days then i guess it will be time to put him down.. wish us luck... sobbing as i write this...he will be my first loss ...

I think he will be fine, seen worse. Keep it clean, try to offer as much soft food as possible ( I like to use parrot handfeeding formula, it is very soft and pack full of good stuff). Give him some baby aspirin in his water, I believe it is 3-5 per gallon of water, but do a search on here as someone may know better than I. If probably hurts like heck, just like when you rip a toe nail etc... takes a little time to toughen back up and for the nerves to dull. Keep him eating and drinking and he will recover just fine.
