I have one hen that lays a ridged egg every day....just noticed
the one egg like that for quite awhile.
Now it seems like another hen or two are having the same issue
with their eggs?
They get lay ration, boss, flax seed, flax meal, fish meal, grit...
They are free range also so I'm pretty sure it isn't a deficiency
but could it be a surplus of calcium? or something?
Just kinda odd

One of my hens, a Buff Orpington, has laid eggs with ridges from the very beginning. They are almost like wrinkles in the covering of the shell. Is this what you describe as wrinkles?

The ridges run around the egg in the center...not lengthwise.
It also looks like a crack running around at this ridge but it
isn't weak like a crack would be.

no eggs are not flat or deflated like balloon.

Thanks for the link to misshappen eggs.
Found description for what I have on another pg

A 'check' around the 'waist' (love that term! ) is due to
stress and/or repair while the egg is in the shell gland.

now I know.....Thanks!

I also have a young hen that lays eggs like you describe. Hers have a ridge running a little south of midway around the egg. Hers are also very rough. I posted here and people suggested that I discontinue putting oyster shells in the feed and have a separate dispenser for them. Even though I have done this, her egg continues to be rough and have that ridge around it. I'll subscribe to this post so perhaps we can get some answers.

yeah the "ridges" will run the "equator" (i guess that is a good way to put it). they will run horizontially. Have you got ANY sneezing or coughing?

The reason I stress this is that my very first flock had this run through, and I thought it was just "a odd egg" here and there and they really suffered for it. I don't play with this stuff now. You can catch it at the feedstore and bring it home in your clothes it is so contagious!! My hens have NEVER laid as well again and they were only in their first year. Fertility took a BIG drop too.

I'll try to find you a picture.

My RIR lays these. These are extreme ridges, but almost every egg from her has ridges of some sort. I've always wondered what caused these. She's never has the ridges going around the "equator" of the egg though.
