Bobwhite/Coturnix Hybrid Quail

@Fat Daddy FYI that cross is gorgeous and the chicken was a 'Black Red Malay' rooster.
HA HA! I see, its a "eye of the beholder" deal!! Forgive my previous ignorance.... I will say its the prettiest chicken - guinea hybred Iv ever seen a picture of!

Wow, That was a joke! Maybe you should consider removing the stick and replacing it with a sense of humor! And before you get all indignant, This is a thread about quail, not chickens or guinea. But you clearly wanted to put up pix of your bird.... Thats great, love pix of rare birds... But now you want to stomp your little feet! Smile and enjoy yourself.....

if you are a dab hand at AI you can do it more reliably than trying to get the two species together, I have had a researcher buy a lot of my coturnix eggs to investigate if there is a gene that makes it more likely to have a successful outcome. Given that using AI you can hybridize a chicken with a coturnix, I imagine all quail species can probably be hybridized by someone willing to take the trouble
...wait WHAT???
I know this is an old thread, and I'm sorry, but WHAT?? I need pictures of this and how it turns out. Are the offspring fertile? Now I REALLY want to hybridize my Silkies with my coturnix quail.

While I imagine a silkiequail to be an adorable bird, it’s definitely not easy to produce. In the study testing of the “silver” gene in quail is homologous to the “blue/splash” gene in chickens, 582 eggs were produced from artificially inseminating quail. Only two hatched, one of which survived over a year.
