I am usually pretty good and sexing my chicks, but these 3 are toughy's...I'm not convinced 100%. These chicks are between 12 and 13 weeks old and hatched from my own flock (2 hatches 1 week apart)... dad is a salmon Faverolle, mama can be a EE, Buckeye, black JG, mottled Java, Delaware, BR, salmon Faverolle and Wellsummer. Please note that my birds are hatchery stock...not breeder quality. Any guesses on the mama for each?
#1) This one I believe is a purebred salmon faverolle pullet. Am I right?
#2) This one at first glance looks like a purebred (albeit poor quality) salmon faverolle pullet, but something makes me think that it may be a mixed breed cockerel.
A bit redder than the girl, but still awfully pink for a cockerel. The neck feathers are pointer than girls, but more rounded than boys.
#3) This one is larger than the others (he/she is 13 weeks old for certain, whereas the others are 12 weeks old). I have been thinking it is a cockerel because he/she has always been a big chicks since 2 weeks old plus he/she was pink very early (just never got red)! But, that comb is awfully pink (not red) and small and this bird is the sweetest, most docile chick of any of the babies! What makes it more difficult is that I believe the mama is one of my EEs, and I know that EEs aren't easy to sex either.
With this personality (and given the dad and who I think mama is), this may be the sweetest roo we have ever had! This one has me confused! Oh...and their is some shine starting to show up in the neck feathers, though it is mild and necessarily indicative of a male at this point).
For comparison, here are the 2 boys from the hatch. DEFINITELY cockerels!!
Nice baby roo: (Faverolle cross of some sort...he is all the same pattern throughout. Maybe Fav/EE if EE mama threw a straight comb gene)
Evil baby roo: (pure bred faverolle or faverolle/welsummer)
