Pekin x Runner Duck cross. **THEY'RE HERE**PICS!!**

i have a fawn and white indain runner hen and im gonna cross it with either a pekin are a khaki camball and want to know if they are likely to set

What I found with my runners (pure breeds) was that they didn't set the first year even though they were laying like crazy. But once they got a bit older, 2+ yrs, they both set a good size clutch each spring. One was a very good mom and the other was not. If I made any big changes in their lives they wouldn't set that year, but as long as they had no stresses or adjustments they would set one clutch a year in the spring. They seemed like nervous types, so I had to give them their space during the spring for them to be committed to setting.

You can always take their eggs and put them under a broody hen if your desperate for a new gen :)

Hope this helps,

I know this thread is from last year, but here is a pic of my Cross Runners they are now 8 weeks old. Playing in the over spray water whilst cleaning their pond. Just too adorable!!

They are adorable! What colors are their parents?

I was trying to find out if others had Pekin/Runner crosses and obviously didn't put in the right search criteria because this thread didn't come up when I searched previously. I started this thread back in Dec (photos there of mine): https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1145327/runner-pekin-crosses-color.

The mother was Fawn and White. I don't know if she was a cross too? not sure about the dad, I got them from a farm that had a lot of ducks and geese and a couple of ponds. I have a picture of her full brood with her - will post it when I'm on my Ipad :) (I looked at your link very cute) I would say there is a lot of Pekin in my brood

So excited Ruby (white) is brooding on a huge clutch of eggs some belonging to Lola (Black). So much for Runners not being broody, she is quite attentive and I'm super nervous. She made her nest in the bought dog house that i put in the pen for them to use (I guess the pen has a shade roof so they didnt bother ever using it)..so lucky I kept it in there she made quite a comfy nest in it.. and Lola and Ziggy (dad) don't seem to be much bothered about what she is up too. Holding thumbs she is a good mum. I may need a lot of advise once they nearing hatching.. xx

So Much has been happening: Ruby my white Runner became very broody and started nesting with her eggs and Lola’s eggs. Beautiful duckling were hatched last week we’d/thurs. We have only 6 out of 8 alas. But happy all good. Then today I noticed one duckling has what looks like a damaged leg? I will observe but wanted some tips please? Feeling devastated
