I just went out to check on everyone and fill the dishes this morning and noticed that aspens ear ara looked dark and then when she turned i saw a glimpse of yellow. i scooped her up and sure enough she had the same thing that Bombay has going on right now

. I am not sure if it's because they don't leave the coop much to go wash down in the clean creek or maybe it's something with their ears (they are siblings). She came inside and i cleaned the puss off the best i could, a big piece came off the top right away thankfully so her ear opened up pretty quickly. She doesn't seem to be in much pain, yet.

Gave her 2 drops of Mometamax in BOTH ears because the other side looked a little crusty and I figured it wouldnt hurt to prevent it in case it was starting.

I am also still doing the Tetracycline in the water for both of them.

Here's a picture of her bad ear before i messed with it. Anyone had a duck/chicken with an infections like this before?

The camera didn't wanna get a good close-up pic, sorry. it's like a big, yellow-ish plug.

UGH... 2 ducks in the kitchen.....

Poor babies. You better check all ducks, because one may have contaminated some water and passed it on to the others. What works well is one of those ear bulbs for babies. You can use it to squirt chamomile tea or vinegar water into the ear. Never put the bulb into the ear and squeeze. Just the little stream is all you need. Be careful with Q-tips they can irritate the area more and cause swelling. Antibiotic for the drinking water are great and I would treat all ends, not just locally the ear.

Vinegar does kill yeast, and it reduces swelling. It does not sting, I know because I've used it on myself. Use a syringe or ear bulb to spray with a small stream of this cleaning solution. I would mix it 50/50 with luke warm water. Clean out the ear with it and then add the ear drops from the vet.

AWESOME new tonight!! While I was getting ready to give Bombay his ear drops tonight, I had a little help so I had 2 free hands and I was able to get a better look at his ear. He had more gunk built up in there, a Lot more! and i got a little off the top and while i was trying to get his ear hole opened to put the drops in he was fussing and the gunk started to push out!! I hated doing it but i had to grab his head and pushed a little around his ear and the WHOLE PLUG popped right out!!!!

I was SOOO happy and I know they must have taken a TON of pressue off of the inside of his ear. it was pretty icky but of course I was so amazed that I had to take a picture

. The gunk was as hard as Tire Rubber and reminded me of the special ear plugs my younger brothers & sister(triplets) had to have after they got ear tubes.... It was shaped just like the inside of his ear, it was pretty weird!

I am going to try Aspen's after a day or two, after she's had the drops a few more times. I think that's what really helped loosen the stuff up.
