My goat had one between his ribcage and his thigh. We never even knew it was there until he got really sick and a huge bulge appeared .We raced him to the vet where he had emergency surgery. The bulge was a loop of intestine that had gotten trapped in the hernia and was loosing blood supply. They said if we had waited it would have been much worse

I can’t speak to $ figures as that will vary from town to town and Vet to Vet. However surely the cost of doing the surgery under emergency conditions as well as the surgery is different if it is just to fix the hernia is less complicated than spicing GI track ? I would show it to your Vet see what they say? Good luck to you and the kid both .

Can't see in the pic, but, if it is an intestinal hernia, getting it fixed now is going to be cheaper, and with a better change for a good outcome then if you wait. Odds are that it will become an emergency on a Sunday afternoon, goat I notice are rarely in need of a vet, unless it is going to cost you more! Let us know what happens.
