"Ugliest" chicken contest

Where do you get a naked chicken? I have seen pictures before but thought they were fake

Naked Necks (also sometimes referred to as "Turkens"), like the one posted directly above, are pretty common. Many big hatcheries carry them, you'll occasionally see them in feed stores, there's some great breeders here on BYC.. I have/had many (personally I find them gorgeous and wonderful and they are near enough my favorite chicken breed) and got a lot of them on Craigslist or local swaps.

There is such thing as totally naked chickens, too, (like the ones posted above a few years ago) but they are extremely rare (at least on this side of the Pond) and difficult to come by. They are bred by manipulating a gene in some chickens (namely Naked Necks) called the "scaleless" (Sc) gene. When two scaleless birds are crossed, they can create a fully featherless bird. If you google images of naked chickens (make sure to add that "-ens"!), most of the images you see are not faked.

Ive got you all beat. Lol. I bought a dozen turkin mixes at our local auction house. Got home and looked at them. Oh lord! Silkie polish turkin crosses. And then I spotted Fugs. We have affectionately named her/him/it Fugs (short for fugly). Not only polish turkin silkie but MAJOR scisor beaked on top of it. You may want to look away now

Youve been warned!
