Rot Ro, it's a Rooster in the city-what do I do

One of my 3 hens has turned out to be a roo. I'm in the city of San Diego and I'm right under the 50 foot line that would keep me legal. I know my neighbors would not care about the hens. They wouldn't even know they were here until I give them some eggs(when I get them). My flock is now about 20weeks old and the rooster is starting to crow. The farm I purchased them from won't take them back and I'm not allowed to post them on this forum until I've been around longer. He's a pet and I would hate for him to end up as someone's dinner, but he can't stay here. Anyone have ideas on what to do with this guy?

I know I feel you pain, two of my chickens turned out to be roos, I posted them free here BYC but got no takers. Keep looking ask anyone in rural areas if they want a free roo, just DONT EAT HIM. I might have to result to craigs list as well

I got a roo roo too! He hasn't crowed much. So I think I will wait and see. When they come knocking on the door then I will look for a new home. I have a couple of homes lined up if he needs to get on a fast train out of town. LOL
 
Oh, no! I would be devastated! Can't you just keep him for as long as possible? Maybe no one will complain. A lot of ppl enjoy the sound of a rooster crowing. Maybe he won't crow all day long or be very loud. Could you go around to your nearest neighbors and explain the situation before there are complaints? Take brownies!
 
I resorted to craigslist. I was really worried about finding him a good home. The guy that took him has 4 hens and lives farther away from his neighbors. It sounds like he's got a good home. My neighbors probably wouldn't have complained, but if they did, I'd loose the whole flock. I'm about 5 feet short of the city's 50 foot rule for the coop.

I just bring my bad boy into the house and he sleeps in a pet taxi overnight. I take him outside to the pen between 7 & 8 AM. The neighbors are usually gone to work by then.

I do understand that someone might complain if your roo crowed during the day, so I think you did the right thing. Any chance on getting that 50 foot rule changed to 45?
 
roosters can't crow properly unless they can get their head all the way up. If you can somehow keep him in an area with a lowered roof for just a little while, it'll buy you some time.
