I was told this was calcium deposits on her egg. Is there something I need to do? Is too much calcium bad for them? Help please!

I doubt there's anything you need do.

See if you get those "all the time" or just once in a blue moon. If it is only an occasional thing and all the other eggs are what you expect, I'd not be too concerned. Are you putting in extra calcium in their feed? Normally a hen won't pick at the calcium tray, offered on the side, unless she truly needs it.

I only have 2 laying hens out of my 6, the others are too young still. She lays an egg with this stuff on it maybe 2-3 every other week. Not a whole lot, but some. She's laie every day for the past 2 weeks, was about every other day before that. I've never given them extra calcium, just the Dumor layer food, and they roam around the yard. We've only had her for about a month now. Idk where she's getting the extra calcium, just wasn't sure if it could hurt her or not.

it kindof looks like a globe....and very granulated. When I get calcium deposits on my shells, they are not so numerous or so round...just a couple odd little bumps. These almost look like they are sitting on top of the shell...or almost like it may be partially double shelled?

If I were you, I would choose the wait and see approach...maybe she is just a little unique. If it doesn't seem to be causing her problems, I personally would probably just let her be. Maybe switch to a feed w/ less integrated calcium or suplement her with vitamin D to see if that helps?

It is totally on the outside of the shell. I can scrape it off with my fingernail. I had another post up on here asking what it was, and people responded that it looked like extra calcium, that's why I said that. I have no idea what it is. It's almost like if I ground up a regular egg shell into a powder of sorts. Was just curious as to if that's just her, or if its something I need to keep an eye on or worry about. She's a healthy, happy hen otherwise, so I'm not sure.

Im pretty sure when hens are forming the egg shell, it happens in tiny droplets like that...which is why I thought maybe she is adding a second layer of shell that is just incomplete? I dunno. It doesnt seem to be affecting her health does it?

my hens used to do that wat feed do u give them i think feeding them whole grains help stop that but if it doesnt hurt or affect her who cares its not really a problem

I feed them the Dumor Layer food. And what ever left over bread, fruits and veggies we have. They get plenty of bugs and what ever they find roaming around the backyard too. We've only had her for about a month, but she's been healthy.
