Dyeing white chickens for camouflage?

I am hoping for some advice on if it would be beneficial to try to dye my white 10 week old sultan pullet to help protect her from hawks . I trimmed her head and leg feathers and now she is goes outside on her own to the free range area. Her being outside now is making me very nervous! We have a lot of hawks here and she stands out like a sore thumb. (At least to me!)

I never would have added a white chicken to my flock on purpose. I kept her as a favor to a friend. Because of her crossed beak she needed a smaller flock situation like mine to be able to compete for food. I have a 2 year old crossed beak who gets along just fine with a special food dish. So...I agreed to keep the little white bird.

Has anyone every dyed a white chicken for camouflage?

I can't offer much advice. If it were me, I would keep her and a buddy together in an enclosed area. I know you said you free range but do you have the ability to pen off an area and cover the top so hawks can't get in? Has she shown any indication that she doesn't know how to "hide" on her own? There are lots of white chickens out there that do just fine keeping themselves safe from predators.

Thank you for answering!! I wish I could create a hawk proof enclosure. :( We have neighbors close by. If anything starts to smell they may get the tape measure out and remind us that our coop is too close to their house! I decided when I got chickens that I would not pen them up and create an odor. I did not want to start any neighbor wars! Instead I tried to create enough cover that the hawks don't bother my chickens.

I thought that because of her white color she was more at risk. But I guess maybe it is behavior as well. Possibly keeping her feathers trimmed away from her eyes so she can see is the most important thing to do?

Has anyone had a white chicken in a hawk infested area that made it for a long time?

Thanks!

Luckily, my little white chicken does seem to know how to hide. That tiny white chicken under the mulberry bush is her.

Full view of the mulberry bushes the chickens hang out under. My fence on this side is only 5 feet high.....but the chickens don't fly out into the open horse pasture where this is no cover...ever! We really have a lot of hawks...

I have seen camo covers sold for hens.Besides the camo it helps a bit to protect the back from an attack. You probably could dye a chicken, but I wonder how long it would even last.. I have run fishing line all over my back.So far so good.

You've got a great set up. Lots of hiding spots. I would say she's going to be just fine. Like you said, just keep the feathers around her eyes trimmed and you should be great! Good luck! I love your set up and totally understand about neighbors. I share a fence with the neighbors and that fence happens to the the south fence of the run. LOL!
