buff dewlap toulouse crossed with ???

I have a 6-pack of juvenile buff dewlaps that I cannot be purebred. But, I am not sure what they are crossed with. The lady had white african, brown african, embden & even a Canadian gander on property with the dewlaps. What do you guys think?

Barley, 6 mo old female. Brown african cross?

Milo, 5-6 mo old likely male. Cross?


Ginger, 5 mo old female. Brown african cross?


Piper, 5 mo old male. Embden cross?

What ever they are they are very pretty, are you keeping them? I dreamed last night that dh an I drove all the way to Utah to get a gander for Missy, not my idea but my dh's he said if Sammy doesn't bond with Missy that maybe we should get another Gander, so then I go and dream, We had an X pen in the car and when we stopped at Rest areas we would put the gander in the X pen for exercise and bath room how crazy was that.
 
Lydia, I plan on keeping them, but if Sammy doesn't take to Missy (which I would find very surprising), I'd ship you Chicory. However, you are always welcome to visit my farm and see all my precious animals.

Bhonkers, I'm pretty sure Funky is my hubby's favorite of that group too. She was the sole buff juvenile from the rescue group that I could not get anyone to adopt because she is so funky looking. But she has a super fun personality and integrated great into my group.
 
If crossed with brown africans one would expect to the see a noticable neck stripe and they would have dark beans on their beak. Neither of which i can see from these pics. Crossed with a embden or white african i would expect to see to some white wing feathers (most likely some of the primaries). Can't tell that from the photos.
 
Hi there. I think Roboboy is correct and if these were the result of a cross with an African then there would be evidence of a knob or raised area on the base of the top beak and a telltale darker brown neck stripe. If crossed with an Embden then there would greys, dilutes etc and only Buff females.

Some appear rather nice but need more work to develop the Dewlap type in a breeding programme. They're almost midway in type between a Dewlap and Production Toulouse. Given that they're all Buffs my hunch would be a cross with an American Buff.

However they may be the result of a pure Dewlap mating but the parent stock lacked good type (keel, depth of body, dewlap etc)

If they were here in the UK they would be snapped up to help found a programme as there are so few about over here.

Their coloring is all identical with my purebred buff adults. They have no visible darkening on neck or black marks on beak, and they are not developing any knobs like my africans. However, Nutmeg, who is already 20lbs, has blue eyes like my white africans.

I am not aware of the lady I got these babies from having any american buffs, but she was a full blown overrun puppy mill with hundreds and hundreds of geese, ducks, chickens, emus, ostriches, and other animals. It is very possible there could have been an american buff hanging around.

Fortunately, I have two very nice pairs of adult buff male/grey female dewlaps, so I can pair up their offspring with these juveniles to improve their lines.
