Hey all,

I am a first time poster and first time chicken owner. After doing research for a year I started building my backyard flock a couple of months ago. I currently have 10 pullets. We have 3 brahma bantams one light, one dark and one buff, one black silkie, one bantam aracauna/white rock mix, 1 araucana, one mystery chick that was given to me as an exchange for a roo, 2 silver laced wyandottes and a golden laced wyandotte.
I just got the wyandottes this weekend. Now for my question, my golden laced wyandotte has feathered feet.

I was under the impression that wyandottes did not have feathered feet. Not that I mind as those feathery little feet are super cute!

So, is it possible for wyandottes to have feathered feet? I will try to get some photos but as the wyandottes are new they are not very receptive to photo shoots as of yet. Any help is appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

Welcome and congrats on your new chicks. My SLWs and GLWs pullets are 2 mos. old now, they came from Ideal via a farm and feed store. No feathers on their feet. Post some pics if you can, there are many experts here who can help with determining breed.

Well Wyandottes were developed from Cochins which is why you occasionally see some with straight combs. Isn't it entirely possible that a Wyandotte could have feathered legs? I don't mean heavily feathered, just a few kind of like what shows up on Welsummers.

If the comb isn't rose though it could be a Golden-laced Cochin.

I guess the question is: Is it heavily feathered on the legs or just a few random stubs?

Her feet are heavily feathered....I guess I have a cochin. Now I really picked the wyandottes for their laying ability and now I have to decide if I want to keep this golden laced mystery or return her....My husband has set the chicken limit to 10 so I either have to keep her or exchange her. To top it off my husband actually picked the golden laced wyandotte as the chicken as his chicken.....Thoughts?

Is her comb straight or rose? If it isn't straight you may have a Cochin cross. If it is straight you probably have a Cochin but you could still have a cross. My Cochins layed well. And they would go broody and raise their chicks.
