I think you may have solved a mystery that I've only recently been having. It's basically the same problem or confusion! Well, an egg's an egg but when it doesn't match the normal egg colour expectancy, it kinda throws one! As I've had a really bad egg eating problem during the past two months, I had to cull two of my standard hens during this past wk, sadly. So, now I have just the four Hens. A couple of days ago, a large long pure white egg appeared out of nowhere in amongst my broody Splash Australorp's false eggs! Now, today, another one has appeared!The other three had decided that their favourite nesting area was the plastic bin which "Happy", the Splash Australorp, was commanding. I've seen them snuggle in besides Happy to lay their eggs. The two whom I had to very, very sadly cull (Had them for 3-4 yrs and I tried every trick in the book but to no avail!!) used to lay their eggs in the wooden coop and I suspect that the other hens decided their eggs might stand a better chance of survival if they laid them in with Happy. Or they were just acting like magnets, like some hens do, and decided that the broody hen's nest was their favourite spot too! Whatever the reason, since the other two hens were removed, eggs started appearing more frequently in Happy's nest. But, when the white one appeared, that really threw me! Then another today! They look like a Polish egg but much larger! At the moment, I don't have any Polish. All I have is a sort-of Light Gold Laced Wyandotte/Marans-X, a Silver Laced Wyandotte and a Buff Orpington! After what I've read from the postings here, tomorrow I'm going to check Orpi's ear lobes to see if there is any white patches. Both the Wyandotte and the Buff Orpington are only just over a year old so may have started laying late. What I thought may have been Orpi's eggs, may have been Lacy's eggs. Plus Lacy has been broody twice this season. Tomorrow, after checking Orpi's ear lobes, I'm going to separate her for a day or two to see if she lays one of these white eggs.
I'll let you both know what I find out, Mama-Dawn and Peggy-Sue! But, after what I've read here, I think she must be the secret white egg layer! Lol!
