Hi, I was looking at the many wonderful examples in the coops section. I need help deciding what kind of coop to use for my ducks. I'm planning to get a 10 or so either Saxony or possibly Silver Appleyard ducks.
I'm torn between building a mobile style coop, probably 6'x8' or 8'x8', where the nest up in the top section, and underneath is a screened in area for them to explore. Normally in good weather they'll also get large outdoor area enclosed by electronet to use. But in winter and bad weather they would still at least have the screened in lower area.
The other option would be a metal shed. I can get a 10x11 shed for $400. My area does not require any building permit for any building that will be used exclusively for livestock. But I read those sheds really need a good level foundation. Plus I'd still have to modify it to have at least a couple windows, and add ventilation.
The main reason I'd consider the shed over the mobile coop is that I can walk and sit inside the shed with the ducks. I'm just thinking in the winter I might enjoy doing that for short periods of time.
